Default I Quit! Oh ya, well if your quittin, I'm quitting too!

On the news today they announced that Colin Powell and several members of the cabinet have resigned today. I'm going to guess it has to do with Bush being reelecteed but don't have much info because I saw it while eating lunch in the D-fac. Anyone have any more info. on it?

Well of course it has to do with Bush's re-election. If he wasnt re-elected, they'd all be out. Each President appoints his own cabinet. They probably have personal reasons for leaving, most especially the policies of the President. I'm sad Powell is leaving, he seemed to be the only one (out of the major players like Rice, Ashcroft, etc) that had any integrity.

WTF? One of the main reasons I thought Bush was worth electing, was because he had very strong and wise people to support him - and now he's firing Powell? That guy was serious, way more serious than the rest of the gang, in my opinion.

    This sucks.

He wasnt fired, he resigned. And, unfortunatly (and frighteningly), Rice will probably take his place. Evans and Ashcroft are among others who've stepped down... at least I'm happy about Ashcroft leaving.

    edit: Here's the rest
Along with Powell's resignation, the departures of three others - Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham, Agriculture Secretary Ann Veneman and Education Secretary Rod Paige - were confirmed Monday.

Powell never intended to stay for a second term. Also, its not uncommon for members of an administration to leave after the first term. Nothing much to worry about unless more neo-conservatives are appointed. Perhaps even that doesn't matter with a single party controlling all branches of government

Ashcroft's replacement isn't exactly going to be moderate either. This country is going further and further to the right with every single day.

    Take care all.

Well we can all rest easy now that Bush is replacing the token Black person on his staff with another token Black person.

Honestly, my opinion of her is very low right now as her personality appears to have been replaced with that of another "yes" women. Can that change? Sure, but right now it appears unlikely.

The best cabinets are ones that can sometimes be at odds with each other, as that is when the best possible solutions come out because more than one point of view is being taken into consideration. Three cabinets that excelled at this: FDR's, Reagan's first term, and Clinton's second term.

    Take care all.

I agree. With anything it's better to look at multiple options and see which one will work out in your best interest. "Yesers" just agree with the first idea that works.
