Grin I miss my old FF8 board...but they were great at advice:

The site's long down, which is why I was here, but the people there were amazing and smart. Aeris2001 and I used to go there, and I'm sure a few others jumped to this forum after. Anyway, onto the advice:

    Beating Omega Weapon:

Yes this is done to death. EoFF even has a guide. But you can beat Omega (Nay, FF8) without junctions or(exclusive or) no limit breaks.

The secret is in pumping your silly characters with so much base stats that they don't even need GFs. This I won't go over, but the basics is either:

    - devour enemies to boost stats, or

    - Not level up until disc 4

The second one is my prefered one as it is easier to do and you don't devour as much. You also need Zell. Basically you avoid ALL battles. Your SeeD score will be pathetic and you'll be hindered, but you don't even have GF junctions anyway so who cares? Go about beating the bosses and doing whatever you want (Sidequests) until disc 4, then get Cactaur! Getting Cactaur allows you to get the vaunted stat+ ability.

Now kill two of your players. The more xp they get the less stat+ they can potentially get. Now level up with one person. As the person levels up, with HP+ Str+ spr+(I think) and mag+, by the time they get to level 99, they will have over 100 BASE stats. Now do the same for the other two, and you will have three rather tough people with no GF junctions. Now start devouring enemies, burping your way up to 255 base stats for most of your stats.

You are now ready to challenge Omega. But first:

Lower your HP levels to yellow. Trust me this is harder than it sounds. I couldn't damage each other even with Squall (90+%hit) sufficiently to injure them. The only way is to have them die (get enemies to cast death?) and given a pheonix down. And don't be level 100, because with no junctions, you lack the death status defence. Challenge Omega with Zell's punch rush/booya combo. With a low HP you will have lots of time to attack OW. With a joystick controller you can just flick the thing back and forth for a 0.2sec of break limit time between attacks. That's 5 shots per second here :D

Alternatively you can do Squall's Lionheart (or try to) -- 100 000 hp aprprox, Irvine's Speed shot, 90 000 hp one time, or Quistis' Shockwave Pulsar (200 000hp). But hurry the hell up. Your goal is to get Omega Weapon to die before Medigo Flame. All other attacks won't hurt you one bit (usually) because you should have 255 spr.

Alternatively, to beat Omega without limit breaks or GF, it is also possible:

    - Cast meltdown
    - Cast triple on each party member
    - summon Meteor like a madman

I have been told lately that meteor doesn't count for 9999 unless it's Rinoa's limit break, but I have done this method nonetheless.

Try beating the entire game without junctions. Or magic. or limit breaks (exclusive ors) -- FF8 is one of the easiest FF's in my opinion, so we need to make it harder with challenges :D

How about the vaunted no junction omega challenge. (no junctioning for the entire game) I've been trying it and I think it's not even too close to impossible if you do it right.

It's up there. You have to max stats, wait until an enemy casts death, and kill two of your guys. Res them using pheonix down and use them to kill omega (hope for your sake that zell dies)

No, I'm talking about the challenge in which you do not junction the whole game so you cannot max your stats. This challenge = no commands except limit break and attack and horrible stats. Plus it isn't a walk in the park even to get to omega. (it isn't too bad though)

You probably should change Quistis' damage to 20,000. Plus, how about the Rinoa Angel wing attack. If you just leave meteor in her inventory and do angel wing it will kill omega faster than everyone except possibly Zell guaranteed. (plus it pauses it so you can use somebody else's limit.

ah yes but how could you have meteor without junctioning her with draw command?

you don't need to junction to get meteor, (forbid mag-rf) but I was talking about the "challenge" listed above by ShlupMoo. Since you can max your stats, you can junction and get meteor that way as well. It doesn't say anything in that challenge about not being able to have magic in your inventory. (Angel wing just needs to have magic in the inventory) Plus you only need one meteor for this to work, which you can get from one meteor stone.

Is it 20 000? It's been a while and I thought it was 200k. Anyway the no junction challenge heh...I would imagine you would smack at Omega like a bunch of flies and hope for the best xD

Nope, Auronheart. That's actually wrong. You have to LEARN the mag-RFs and stuff by gaining AP for your GFs. But that means you must have the GFs "junctioned". If they're not junctioned... then they won't learn any abilities. Therefore... you won't be able to get meteor... and Angel Wings became completely useless. You can't even refine Meteor Stones into Meteors! And also... Quistis can't get Shockwave Pulsar. You have to rely on Armagedon fist.

Isn't magic a junction, so if you don't junction you can't use magic. Correct me if I am wrong, It has been a while.

Yeah, he does start with it and therefore you can use angel wing by refining a meteor stone. However, angelo is way more useful in the no junction. (the one you cannot junction the entire game)

Yep, that's what I was getting at. It only needs to be in the magic stock to work.
