Thread: Oh, The Irony!

    Default Oh, The Irony!

    http://movies.yahoo.com/movies/featu...oxofficer.html

To think, Alexander The Great conquered most of the known world during his time, yet loses to among others Nicholas Cage and SpongeBob?

    Two questions:

    1. Is Irony overrated/underrated/misunderstood in today's world?

    2. It seems that nearly anything can be a movie, from crazy plots about American treasure to bios of famous/infamous folk to live action/cartoons about Sponges, so I pose to you, what would you like to see made into a film?

    Take care all.

    1. what is the world if not dramatic irony.

    2. ocean's twelve.

ps. if anyone from here on in thinks they're cool and wants to say 'THAT ALANIS MORISETTE SONG DOESNT REALLY SING ABOUT IRONY' then you can stop before you make a fool of yourself. dramatic irony, situational irony; it's all valid forms of irony.

    Mm, love that song. ^_^

And yeah, I changed my mind. Oceans Twelve is definitely above Alexander on my list.

I've heard nothing but bad reviews for Alexander. Don't start with omg critics suck, either, because this is one of those movies that SHOULD be getting at least decent reviews.

krissy - OMG THAT SONG IS NOT ABOUT IRONY. There are many different kinds, yes, and NONE OF THEM ARE IN THAT SONG.

Genghis, a movie by *insert director who always makes crumby actions movies*. Summer 2006.

People need to stop making movies about historical figures, or at least figures that were part of the nineteenth century and before.

Irony is only funny when you're a vegan and you eat a peanut, choke and die.

irony is not very important in contemporary American culture. for example, Abercrombie and Fitch are now selling shirts that are already wrinkled up for you. and I never see a non-wrinkled shirt not being worn by an old person. in fact, many college age people think irons are for making toasties.

nope. irony is not too important. <--sarcasm

I have plenty of movie ideas, but I won't post them here for fear of Hollywood executives perusing the forums and claiming ownership of said ideas in three or four years. It's easier to keep it secret.

I have no movie ideas, because my tastes aren't what people like, and my more...general likes (like the things everybody else likes) were created by other people, and I can't come up with that stuff.

As for irony, I don't think I even know what that is myself, or whether it's anything other than a literary device. Is real life irony possible?

A movie about the first four books of the Dark Tower. Then they just kill off Roland or something. Because tha'd make a better ending than the real one. uck.

Irony is hardly lost in this day and age, I'll give you an example.

Many years ago the British conquered some land which ended up becoming indipendent and calling itself Canada, but another abou the cool countries xD, nah onto the story.

At one time the US was once owned by the UK but then they became indipendent and now it seems to ironically be becoming the other way round as the US seems to boss us around quite a bit now, and steal the credit for our inventions and stuff, like we used to do back in the day.

Maybe thats a bit of international irony for you there

Spongebob > Alexander the Great > Nicholas Cage

Spongebob was an awesome movie, so it deserves it's high ranking. And Alanis Morisette killed irony with her song "Irony." I don't think that makes a moron out of myself, cause it's true. Not taking the good advice a friend gave is just stupid, not ironic.

Alexander was doomed to failure the moment they stuck that hideous wig on Colin Farrell's head.

Too true. Plus, I don't think Alexander has blond hair as was Roman, which Italians decend from. And Italians have dark hair.
