Ending of FFVII Confusion (Spoilers)

It's been a few weeks, but I think I recall there being a short FMV after the credits rool of a family of (whatever critter Red XII was) running up to a cliff overlooking a Midgar in ruins. It was all grown over and there were no people living there. I think this FMV said it was taking place 10 years after the end of FFVII..... The movie is 2 years after, right? So what was that short little FMV after the credits about? I'm just a little confused. Was it just to show us that the planet had survived??? Was there significants to the fact that the ruins were all overgrown? Anyone else thought about this?

10 years after the end of FFVII

200 Years, big difference.

I think the most significant part of this clip is to show you that Midgar is abandoned and shut down suggesting that the Earth is no longer being taken advantage of and destroyed. Since this is the original drive in the game before Sephiroth comes along to wreak havoc on the Earth, it's nice to know you handled that too. Other interpretations are to suggest that Humans are extinct on the FFVII world although there really isn't the evidence necessary to back that. I tend to agree with the first and not the latter. There is so many interpretations of this scene it would make your head spin. They range from plausable to nonsensical.

actually it's 500 years and beyond that, they were showing what would happen to the planet with all the humans wiped out apparently, and well holy drew meteor to destroy midgar and so it did and thus ridding the world of reactors.
