Thread: The reason for the season

As a Jew, I feel that I should point something out.

Y'shua (Jesus) was born on the first of Nizan, which falls in late August, early September every year. Never ever has it, nor will it, fall on December 25th, based on the way the Jewish calendar is structured. Jesus was a Jew, who lived in Israel, practiced Jewish things, and lived a Jewish life, therefore, we can assume that his birth really ought to be based on the Jewish calendar, which hasn't changed for thousands of years.

I celebrate the fact that our lord Jesus Christ died on the cross, so that we can eat factory farm turkey and spend our time opening shoddily made presents bought at ridiculously high prices.

Or at least, something like that anyway.

    I LOVE CHRISTMAS!!! =D

Commercial reasons. I'm not a really religious person.

I celebrate it both ways; sadly, more commercial than religious. My family and I go to late night masses on the eve, then open presents at the stroke of 12 on Christmas.

Hey, since when is Christmas just about the presents? Aren't we forgetting the true meaning of this day? The birth of Santa?

Most people know that Jesus wasn't born on the 25th and I think Scholars believe he was born in the summer, but the question is does it really matter when we celebrate his birth? I voted religious because in my family we don't go present crazy and open them all at once, we meter it out over several days. (sometimes it is annoying because it has passed new years before) We go to the Christmas day service most of the time, though sometimes one or two people just go on Christmas eve.
