Hmm. I think this is interesting. I think that the biggest effect on this is how people chat on the internet in their everyday life, and don't know how to change it when they're in the professional world. Personally, I think that the practice of typing with internet slang (u = you, 2 = to/too, b/c = because, etc.) has an overall adverse effect on one's writing skills. I don't IM much, though, so speed isn't generally much of an issue. (I have a high typing speed, too, so y'know.)

I also agree completely with one of the statements made - "'People think that throwing multiple exclamation points into a business letter will make their point forcefully,' Andrews said. 'I tell them they're allowed two exclamation points in their whole life.'"

No, I just think there's alot of thoughtless people. Typing like Shadow Nexus just did doesn't deplete your writing skills...otherwise no one would make it out of Comp 1.

But yeah I agree that people need to cut it out when it comes to business, and just casual chatting free of it would be nice as well.

Huh. Well, more jobs for me.

Seriously, what are people supposed to think of you if you can't even be arsed to use commas and periods in a professional environment? I think all the "OMG dont be so critikel this isent school!!1" people should be awakened to a little thing we call real life.

Well, that way of typing seriously annoys me. Don't you feel sorry for poor old English when you see it masacred in such a way? I am rather picky on that, I mean, people can make grammar errors, but writing without no punctuation whatsoever or screwing up words to make them shorter is not a lack of knowledge but just simple lazyness. In forums, I tend to skip all those posts, I get nervous easily.

Personally, I am offended if someone addresses me in such a fashion. I usually ask not to use Net-Speak, and if they refuse with the excuse of 'omng liekh thisa isnt sckioolll, i ken wtiyre howo3ver i waent!!111', then I kindly tell them to bugger off, and hope they get mauled by a giant, rabid Linkin Park fan.

You know there is a high probability of the subject speaking to you in such manner being a Linkin Park fan?

When people type like that constantly they get a nice spot on my block list. I don't care how smart they are or how relevant of a point they may make. Its too hard to read and comprehend when you are not paying enough attention. I would rather just pass up the post.

Anyone who talks like that in the business world is a moron. Its like talking about in the office how you had a great time last night at an orgy. Common sense people.

I think that was meant to be sarcasm.

By the way, whatever it's that thing on your sig, it's phallical. Are you attempting to deliver some subliminal message?

Writing very well intimidates managers who aren't very smart. It impresses managers who are smart. I'll leave you to guess whether more managers are smart or not.
