Just alittle curious but why didnt they port final fantasies 9 10 10-2 to the pc like they did with 7 or 8? mabey they are in the process but i havent heard of anything. Why did they stop the pc games after 8 i thought it was a good idea letting the people without a psx/2 get a chance to play them. Mabey they didnt make enough sales or is it something else cause i know a pc can handle the game.

I think that's when they statred the idea of XI and decided that instead of porting all the games to PC they should just make a PC game.

They aren't porting them because FF7 and FF8 were really horrible PC conversions. While the character graphics became a bit better thanks to 3D, the backgrounds and FMVs looked worse than in PSX, and the music... argh, don't even get me started on that, since the music quality in PC was quite hideous. I remember playing FF7 PC once with midi-FM synthesis when I didn't have my SB Live sound card, and that chirping beeping wasn't really fun. Instead of having a live choir, One-Winged Angel had loads of beeps and blips. FF8 wasn't much better, either. Many didn't like the user interface and controls either, since arguably, a Gamepad is a lot more convenient and easier to handle than a keyboard. Some other things like mouse-controlled menus and other things like that could have been added, and those who have been blinded by the luxury of those PC RPGs where you can save anywhere (including dungeons and maybe even during battles), they weren't happy with the fact that you can only save at save points.

I don't know how FFXI PC works, though I've heard Square Enix put a lot of time and money on that one, and supposedly it works pretty well. However, that's only because PS2 online gaming is so rare outside Japan. But for other games, I don't think Square Enix wants to take the time and money to do PC conversions for them because generally, console games turned to PC end up sub-par most of the time. Not just with Square Enix, but other companies too. Many also argue that PC gaming just doesn't have the same feel as good old console gaming. That being said, I don't think we'll see much PC versions for Square Enix games in the near future.

If you really want FFIX for PC, play it with ePSXe, a PSX emulator. I actually play FFVII and FFIX's PSX versions with ePSXe because that emulator gets the advantages of both PSX and PC versions: PSX-quality backgrounds, FMVs, sounds and music, and PC-quality 3D enhancements for whatever is possible to enhance. I guess I've just got too used to the ePSXe-enhanced graphics of FFIX, because when I once tried playing FFIX on a real PS, the graphics looked a lot worse than on my computer screen.


EDIT: Cless, You can get ePSXe here. However, I strongly suggest you get version 1.5.2. because 1.6.0 is extremely buggy and totally messes up some games, like Chrono Cross. For plugins, check this page. I suggest Pete's graphics plugins and Eternal sound plugin. If you play 2D PSX games (such as FF Origins or FF4-6 PSX), get P.E.Op.S. graphics plugin too. Those should be all the plugins you need. It takes a while to configure them, but you should be able to do it after a bit of experimenting. To run ePSXe, you need PSX games and a PSX bios file. I don't know where to get it and I can't distribute it here, so just search online or ask someone who has it to send it to you. Finally, you'll need a pretty good computer to run ePSXe. My old 333 MHz with 256 MB RAM and 16 MB video card memory was able to run ePSXe games with little to quite annoying lag on 640*480 resolution, but my current 1.66 GHz comp with 512 MB and 64 MB video card memory can run games totally fine with 1024*768 resolution. ePSXe was the only way I was able to play FFT and CC, and though it's not like playing those games on a real PS, it's still an acceptably enjoyable gaming experience.

Sephiroth, Where would one be able to download this emulator? I need it because those meanies at Square never released Xenogears, FF Tactics or Chrono Cross in Europe.
