If I had a companion and they died, I would eat them. I would even eat myself, just to see what it would be like. In extreme cases, of course.
Depends on if I came across a cactus or not. Cacti are known to hold water.
I'm not smart enough to get water out of a cactus. I tried biting it, and got a little bit sick.
