According to an oscars site, GITS2 will be eligibable 4 a nomination, as it has been released in some US theatres, and competed in Cannes (losing to Michael Moore of course).

And oh, the oscar thing above was a fanboy joke, none of those Animes except Ghost in the Shell would have been elibiable.

And Ghost in the Shell easily deserved to win best picture.

I dont value the Oscars or anything...i mean, when things like Titantic win Oscars, then you know there is sumthin up. I just Want Anime to get some real credit, instead of ignoring it all unless it is by Miyazaki.

Really, I don't see what people have against anime.

Has any cartoon ever won Best Picture? I don't think any cartoon ever has. I am not sure but I don't think animation can qualify for Best Picture(which is why it has its own catagory).

I don't think it wil win because it doesn't deserve to win,it has the best visuals in history and good music(which is reapeted throughout the movie btw) but that is all, everything else is not that imrpessive.

Here are some reviews, they explain things better than me,I disagree with some of the grades and the reviews in this site but i totaly agree with them on this one

But for a certainty back then
We loved so many, yet hated so much,
We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...
Yet even then we ran like the wind,
    Whilst our laughter echoed,
    Under cerulean skies...

The only animation with a Best Picture nomination is Beauty and The Beast.

Apparently, I have been declared banished.

So everyone should go watch some anime because they'll be guaranteed 100% to like it for it's "artistry" despite it being from Japan, which is why no one will watch it, which is stupid, because Japan is a perfect society where everyone will love you if you love their culture, right?

I've watched a fair bit of anime. I used to sit up late on Thursdays to catch all the stuff they used to show, like Evangelion and all the movies they showed. I've been playing FF for years too, so animation and games being the "culture" you refer to, I've experienced a bit of it. And I can honestly say I would rather sit and watch an episode of South Park than any anime I've seen. Not the greatest example, but no matter how open minded the world can be, not everyone (in fact a minority) would value anime as highly as yourself. Not everyone thought Akira was an outstanding reflection of whatever, or that Ghost In The Shell was the be all end all of the world. Anime will likely never win Best Picture because very few people are actually into it. Get over it.

Did you know, that it's a trend in Japan to be as American as possible, and embrace their culture in the same vein as the whole "Otaku" thing? I saw something on it on TV, go me.

I have never even heard of "Ghost in the Shell." There is absolutely no chance of it being nominated. You're letting your fanboy-ness get the better of you. Shrek 2 and The Incredibles were both great. And Titanic was a wonderful, wonderful movie.

I don't like anime, primarily because of anime fanboys. It's not mature, but it's inevitable to me. Anime, in my humble opinion, is one of the most overrated things I've ever seen. Is it because they're Japanese? No, it's because they appeal to only one group, virtually, because most other age groups think the same way I do.

Anime is so well-liked because it has something for literally everyone. There is an anime for everyone and the people that say they hate anime are people that are too ignorant/stubborn to actually look past godawful animes like DBZ, Pokemon, Digimon, etc., than to actually watch good animes that have amazing plots, such as Full Metal Alchemist and InuYasha. I bet you anything that if the good animes were shown before DBZ and Pokemon, anime would be 30 times as popular.

That pretty much sums up how I feel about anime.

And to refer to SomethingBig's post, I do hate anime...doesn't mean I only watched DBZ and Pokemon. Those shows are atrocious. Just because I hate anime doesn't mean I'm blinded by not seeing "good" anime. I've seen Jubei, Ronin Warriors, and Cowboy Bebop. I just don't like them, so you have to accept the fact that not everyone will like what you like.

Honestly though, every hardcore anime fan that I've seen either doesn't have a job or is some kind of computer nerd. I'm not saying this is true of every anime fan, but at some point you'd think they quit stereotyping themselves. Then every summer when the Otakon comes to town, people are like "OMG, it's going to be the bestest ever"...right in the middle of a class lecture.

But KB is right, don't let your fanboy-ness bias your lens for the truly good movies like the Incredibles and Shrek 2.

Roofls, I just saw Shrek 2 and hated it with a passion, whereas Cowboy Bebop: Knocking on Heaven's Door was an artistic msaterpiece. You can't say it isn't without having actually seen the fight scene on the tower. But there really is an anime for everyone. Until you've seen each and every show, you can't say that you hate anime. You may hate a huge number of them, but in order for you to hate them all, you'd need to hate TV.
