    Default Oscar winning Anime

Well can Ghost in the shell 2 innocence, repeat Spirited away from 2003 and win an oscar for best Animated feature?

i know the nomination have not been released yet, but i can not see the nominations being anything other then GITS 2 (Espically as it competed in Cannes), Shrek 2 and The Incrediables. fanboy naivety on my part perhaps?

Shrek 2 will not beat The Incrediables imho. But Incrediables was nowhere near a 100% winner like finding Nemo was, and surely its time the academy chose an intellegent adult anime, espically after how popular the first film was?

The full possible nomination list is...

"Clifford’s Really Big Movie". ..yeah... whatever...
    "Disney’s Teacher’s Pet" no chance
"Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence"
    "Home on the Range" awful
    "The Incredibles" the favourate
"The Legend of Buddha" what is this?
"The Polar Express" the spirit of xmas? soapy chesse
    "Shrek 2" disapointing
    "Shark Tale" terribly panned
"Sky Blue" again, i dont know this
"The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie" cult popularity... wildcard

    what do u ppl think?

The day an anime wins an oscar, is the day I'll never take any oscar serious ever again.

so that means u already dont right? as Spirited Away won in 2003. Not the best Anime, but still worthy.

its a travisty that at least Akira, Ghost in the Shell and Princess Mononoke never won oscars( there was no animation oscar back then right? hell they didnt need to, they should have won best picture).

Akira should have won in 1988 (61st academy awards) instead of RAIN MAN. Ghost in the Shell should have won in 1995 (68th academy awards) over BRAVEHEART", (yes, even a film as good as that) while princess mononoke should have won in 1997 (70th academy awards) over that TITANIC crap.

Eh, I don't like anime but Spirited Away was pretty good and I wasn't disappointed to see it win. As a rule though, anime should stay far, far away from the Oscars.

That's like me saying I won't take them seriously because Fantasy films have won oscars. I really don't understand. Why would it be just fine and dandy for an American animated movie to win one then? And as was already stated, it's already happened.

Although, I never really cared who won what anyway...doesn't affect what I'll watch or my personal opinion of it, like it does with you people, apparently.
    I like Kung-Fu.

Is GitS2 going to win? No. Does it deserve to win? Probably not. I have not seen it but if it is like the first one then no it does not deserve to win(I like the first one but its not that good).

What's with you and anime? Seriously, the chances of an anime winning Best Picture in the Oscars is 1 in a million. I don't recall any of the anime you listed being in American Theaters.

Anyway, I enjoy anime myself, but I don't treat them any higher then other movies. Anyway, to answer your original first question about Ghost in the shell 2. No, it's unlikely it'll even get nominated. I never watched it, nor know that was out in the movie theaters.

To be even considered an Oscar nomination, a movie or animation should be viewed in theaters nation-wide, as far as I'm concerned. Why Spirited Away did so well, it was brought over to America from the folks of Bueno Vista, translated by American (voice) actors, and made an impact.

Apparently, I have been declared banished.

I'm all for anime being a contender, but it doesn't matter to me, really. Anime has its ups and downs, just like any other medium, and so long as it isn't discarded just BECAUSE it is anime, it is all fine with me.
