Why do people who complain about anime always say they hate it without giving any real reasons and thus leading us to believe that such is the case? Why do people instantly assume that people who dislike anime haven't seen any?

That first paragraph is so funny that it's true. Honestly, there were so many people in my high school that thought they learned Japanese by watching anime and then taking Japanese classes...only to realize the language is much harder to learn than it seems.
At least the people who watch cartoons grow out of them. The anime folks never seem to grow out of them, most of them at least. Honestly, I worry about anime fanboys like DMKA. If I mispronounce "Evangellyon", he'll call me a nazi and say I'm a KKK member.
But like Sephex said, I don't watch anime since I don't like it. Figuratively speaking, anime seems to promote masturbation. :P
But if people actually did that then you could say so long to probably 90% of web boards and their posts. Want to say something? Why bother when people will either say "Yes" or "No" to it. WE HAVE TO FIGHT FOR OUR RIGHT TO PAAAAAAAAAAAARTY!Originally Posted by Sephex

Oh, what can I say? I have a feeling the guy who started this thread is purely doing so just to stir up it really.
Like meat puppet, I love some animes and despite others with a burning passion (example - Inuyasha *shudder*).
*only applies to people with crap arguments for hating anime and annoying fanboys. Nah really, I'm just kidding.

Anime is a PAST TIME, not a way of life. I actually know someone who pretty much failed french class last year, because all she did during that class was read little anime comics and try to write in japanese. She also let me look at those comics, and all it was was weird crazy stuff with naked chicks with enormous boobs and guys in towels and enormous pigs on those girls (I'm being serious here.) It was scary.
If you watch anime, good for you, just don't let it consume you. Then it gets frightening.
Wow, you totally changed my mind with that totally unbiased and representative list of pictures from both countries! :rolleyes2Originally Posted by SomethingBig
What I said earlier was that both anime and American cartoons aren't especially realistic and that they have few exceptions at that. So it's not like I said Japanese cartoons are less realistic than American ones.
Anyway, I agree with Lindy and Czech Republic. It's the obsessiveness of anime that's awfully annoying, not so much the style itself. Althought I do find them a bit repulsive, from what I've seen of it so far.
Wha? How dare you! *takes out spiked club* Anime is awsome! Can you emagine how modern cartoons would be like without anime?h

Yeah, getting obsessive over anything is the problem, not the thing itself (anime in this case) Look at all the trekkies out there and other weird fanbases for other series/films/whatever like Buffy or Red Dwarf etc. etc., they're just as bad as people that take anime too far
Are RPGs a bad thing to get obsessive over? Or video games?Originally Posted by Farah

I don't see why everyone is taking this so seriously and in some cases, insulted by other people's opinions. If someone doesn't like anime then they don't. They can make fun of it and put it down all they like . . . it doesn't hurt the fact that you like anime. =/
I personally make fun of people who are hardcore in to Star Wars ( including myself even though I hardly follow it anymore ) or Star Trek or StarGate, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Wrestling, or something else along those lines. To all the anime fans taking offense to what others are saying, I'm sure there's some trend that annoys you and you make fun of those people.
And yes, obsession is bad. I buy a lot of anime/manga but I'm not going to put myself in a dangerous living position just to have it ( even though, yes, I have come close to failing my French class because I was reading manga ). But it's no different for anime fans to obsess rather than wrestling fans, football fans, any collectors, etc. That's what people are trying to point out. They aren't just 'attacking' anime obsessors but anyone who obsesses to begin with.
And I'm still loving these Japanese Arnold commercials. :<3:
