I do agree that the anime humor, while it can be rather good, is usually thrown out later on in the series to make room for more serious character development. Frankly, I like that, though I can see why people wouldn't. It's not that I'm against humor, but I do like compelling stories and character development always takes center stage for me.
Actually, the Digimon series wasn't too bad. It did have its own depth and the storyline was rather interesting at times.
I'm not an obsessive fanboy by any stretch of the imagination, but I dislike it when people who've seen Dragon Ball Z and Sailor Moon and Pokemon suddenly come out and say "OMF ANIME IS TEH SUXORZ!!!!!!11111"
It's a wide genre, and, with all genres, there's the good and the bad.
