    Think about it,

50 years ago, man hadn't even dremt of landing on the moon, we didn't have technology that could fly us the speed of light, didn't have colour TV's, The Internet wasn't aroung for another 35 years...I could go on and on

In 50 years from now, if we need to do something about an asteroid, I'm sure we would be able to.

I recall hearing that the sum of human knowledge doubles every eight years or so, so I imagine it really isn't that big of a threat. We could probably take it out now if we really HAD to.

As long as it kills all of us so fast that it's painless, it's fine with me.

Seriously though, I'm not worried about it. I never take these "astroid discoveries" seriously.

    Pfft, we wish.

I first read "NASA" as "Nascar", which made me laugh cuz racing people are the last people I'd think would discover a life-ending asteroid. Anyway, I think in 50 years, we'll find some way to make metal oil, so then we'll take the asteroid, turn it into oil, secretly put the oil into an unsuspecting country, then wage war on that country for said oil.

The article says that the impact's going to be like an Atomic bomb. The upside of this grim news is that the damage won't be entirely global. So no Day after Tommorow plot coming into effect here.

Well whatever the case if it'll hit or not, one thing's for sure. I'm not going to be in Europe around that time.

*points to the part of the article that mentions about it hitting only the Eastern Hemisphere*

Ah well, looks like I'll just sit on my lawnchair in sunny California.

Yet another doomsday asteroid is coming for us.Hey I remember last year when one barely missed us and NASA has always said some crazy stuff like an asteroid will hit in 2013 or so.Its always a diffferent date for some reason.Well they got a little bit over half a century to think of something and in my humble opinion of no one can think of anything then we kinda deserve it.

The problem with saying we could blow an asteroid up before it's too late is seeing it in time. In all likehood, we won't see the one that nails us until it enters the atmosphere... about one second before it hits. There are a lot of rocks out there, and near-misses are much more common than you think.

What happened? Suddenly, after this thread being dead for a month, it wakes up again. Did the article update or something? Last I checked, the odds of it hitting was like less than 1%, I think. Did it go up? *checks article*

EDIT: No. It hasn't updated since January 3rd. Nasa hasn't been checking it since earlier, according to their page. They're hoping it's not a flunctuation that it got a 0 on the so-called Torino scale.

A new update all but removes any potential risk. Current Torino rating is 0!
Whoops, I thought I was clever to quote a website like that, but I forgot it says 'posted by.' That's a website, not a poster in this thread.

geez by the time it hits it will be alot smaller and it wont cause much damage where the hell is my holy materia lol but summon WEAPON man this is freaky.

NASA would most likely have better technology then and will be able to kill it off.

Well, if an asteroid's Torino scale can go from a 0 back to a 1, then NASA better keep an eye on it. There are a lot of rocks up there, so I hope they have a department that observes them and makes these sorts of calculations.

Hopefully, packing the Shinra #26 with Huge Materia and auto-piloting it into the asteroid will do the trick. I think that's something like what NASA would do. Uh oh, I hope they play FFVII, or else they won't think of anything! "Hmm, does anybody at this table know if materia exists, or what we could use instead?" We're doomed! No, I'm just kidding. NASA is smarter than that.

Are you trying to figure out a weapon to use? I was thinking of maybe putting nukes in the rocket core instead. Of course, if terrorists take the nukes out to use it in their fight, we might have a bit of a problem.

If it did hit it would wipe everything out and let evolution start over giving the poor planet a much needed break. Seriously, this sounds like tabloid fodder. A GIANT ROCK MAY GET WITHIN A LIGHT YEAR OF US, REPENT! We're more likely to kill each other by then.

This sounds also like some drama ridden Armagedden rip-off
"To save the Earth one of us must stay behind to set off the bomb".
*awkward silence* "I'll do it"! "NO JACK, I CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT YOU"!
"Rose, I love you". KABBBOOOOM! "JAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK"! *close up of tears floating in zero gravity*.
hmm... Anyone know how to copyright a screenplay?
