does father and son know that their Related??? (SPOILERS)
(SPOILER)okie i know that Laguna is squall dad, but do they both know that their father and son??? and why did it took so0o0o long for laguna to come back home? i mean its really sad that he doesnt know that his wife die and that he had a son.....can someone plz tell meeh???
The game itself doesn't say, but (SPOILER)I think Laguna knows that Squall is his son. I don't think Squall knows that Laguna is his Dad.

My reasoning behind believing Laguna knows of Squall being his son is Kiros' comment in the Ragnarok on Disk 4 (which I posted in the other thread related to this subject earlier today).
Meanwhile, Squall seems as clueless to his relation to Laguna as he does about everything else. There's nothing in his dialog that suggests he has a even a suspicion, and if he knew, he'd be asking a lot of questions.
Note - I'm not gonna use spoiler tags since this thread is marked spoilers.
Anyway, yeah, I think Laguna definately knows Squall is his son - on the Ragnoroak he says something along the lines of, "When this is over, we have to talk," to Squall. This occurs around the same time Kiros pipes up with the "Good thing you look like your mother," comment, so it infers that "the talk" is going to be Laguna revealing to Squall that he is his father.
As for Squall, I think he's pretty obilvious to it, although he does arguably have more important things on his mind. It makes many things in the game quite humorous, however, like Squall's comment about Laguna, "I dreamt I was a moron," etc. One has to wonder how Squall would react finding out that Laguna is his dad.
As to why Laguna didn't do anything about it sooner, well, I think that's just Laguna. He's not exactly the most socially adjusted person on the planet - I don't think he knew what to do - he probably decided Squall was better off in the hands of Cid and Edea then with a self-proclaimed idiot such as himself. Plus, he was busy running Esthar, and he didn't come to get Ellone until late in the game as well.
What I want to know is why Dad didn't age at all. He looks exactly the same some 17 years later, more like a brother.

His 'sprite' looks almost the same. In the FMV he's clearly aged.

I think they both now. If recall correctly when you talk to laguna in the ragnarok his coversation goes something like this "We have a lot to talk about after this. but i understand if you don't wanna hear it."
Why would't squall want to hear it? I think they both know, and laguna is worried that squall may be angry or hurt.

It's possible - I just interpreted the line slightly differerntly - that Squall oblivously insults Laguna throughout the game, and clearly doesn't think much of him when they finally meet. Therefore, Laguna assumes, (mostly likely correctly), that Squall will not be pleased to find out that his father is someone he thinks quite lowly of already. I don't think Squall really gets it.
As for the aging, in the ending FMV, when "young" Laguna's face fades into the "old" Laguna, he clearly now has wrinkles around his eyes and stuff - although the details are slight.

He isnt too terribly old at that point, so he isnt decrepid or anything. How old would he be? Late 30's/early 40's, right?
I'd say mid 40's. If we assume that he's 27 years old during the Laguna Scenarios, and we add 17 years to compensate for Squall's age, then another one or two as a variable for the time it took for Squall to be conceived, he should be anywhere from 44 to 46.Originally Posted by TheAbominatrix

well the way squall talks of laguna and the way he talks to laguna i would say they dont know they're related, would you talk like that to your father?

Yeah, if you're a 17 year old angst-ridden brat who's dealing with abandonment issues, then perhaps.
But I still say Squall doesn't know, regardless.
I'm one hundred percent positive Laguna knows, though. If you pay attention to the dialog at the end of Disk 3, and during the Ragnarok on Disk 4, I don't see how one can think otherwise.
That, and it would be pretty sad - even for Laguna - if his wife DIED giving birth to his kid and he never bothered to find out who the baby was. LOL
