    Default Donation sites.

I'm not sure if this is General Chat exactly, so move it if you need to.

I wanted to make a thread for your know, putting donation sites that seem valid so people can help to cause for the tragedy in India.

Also, I wanted to remind you all about The Hunger Site. For those unfamilar with The Hunger Site, this website allows you to help out hunger causes by just clicking a link once a day. For every click you have 1.1 pounds of staple food given to people in need. I thought I should post this because it helps ALL countries, so it'd help in India.

There's a link for donations specifically for India in The Hunger Site. Mercy Corps.

I know it's like the holidays, and a lot of you got some money for Christmas or whatever holiday you celebrate, so maybe you can try and donate? I know I'm gonna try.

Almost every site has a link to a donation site, a few are the ones I encountered below:

    <a href="http://www.apple.com">Apple</a>

    <a href="http://www.amazon.com">Amazon</a>

Obviously, even a $1 donation helps.

I also recommend the Hunger Site. I've been clicking it once a day for about 5 years. Pretty sure it's legitimate.

It's important to make sure any place you give money to is legitimate. I'd stick to the "big" ones if you do decide to. http://www.redcross.org/ for example.

Although I'm personally glad people are donating to Indians affected by the tragedy, please recall Sri Lanka and Indonesia are suffering far worse. Your money will go farther there, even though they may be less organized.

    Thanks for making the thread.
    N---

edit: $10 provides 8-10 square meals in India - I'm sure it's the same in other affected areas. A little goes a long way. Thanks a lot.

Unne makes a very good point, as there have been many scams in the last few years where smaller, independently run sites were not making donations entirely, but were skimming some of the money for themselves. That's not to say that smaller, more grass-roots sites should be ignored, but do some research and make sure your donations are truly going to the places you want them to. You can attempt to find a site's tax and donation information pages, which should, if legit, track where all the donations are sent.

Even if you don't have enough money to donate, you can always donate your time at a local charity, or some spare canned food you may have. Together, we can make a difference.

    Take care all.

Question: Why do we need to click a button for them to give food? Why can't they do it anyway?

You can't click more than once a day?! I'd love to donate...
This subliminal message could be meant for YOU. But it's probably not. Move along ;D

I'm donating to Mercy Corps since a large percentage of the donations actually go directly to the cause. Doctors Without Borders is another great organization that I highly recommend donating to.

Yeah, my Mom isn't going to let me donate anything until she reads their privacy policy completely and all that to make sure they're legit. I wanna try to donate about 20 or 30 dollars.

I gave to www.oxfam.org.uk . I think Oxfam probably has sites for other countries as well.

I'm planning to donate about £5 whenever I get payed/check goes through etc. as though there are loads of places on line to donate, I work mainly in cash and there's no one round my way collecting.

Thank you all for the sites. I'll look in to them later today.

I'm already donating money along with the rest of my family to the Red Cross. But, I may donate to some others, like The Hunger Site and Oxfam.

    Thanks again, everyone.
