while X-2 does have its cheesy moments (charlies angels anyone?) I believe that X isnt complete without it, playing through the few bad parts is well worth the perfect ending.

I liked X better. X-2 was more like an added bonus than an epic like it's predecessor.

Well, to be honest, X is a much better game. i think that the elements that make X-2 an enjoyable game would have been used in a new game in the series, not a rehash of what was a perfect story in X.
In the game, yuna speaks of the dishgonour done to zanarkand by having tourists there. i think, tho enjoyable, X-2 is sort of like that. X was amazing on its own... i try to look at X-2 as a stand alone game, not a sequal, so as to keep the beauty of X untarnished.
having said that, after ten nearly flawless games... i guess we can foprgive square for a single, momentary lapse in concentration...?
