No it is not better than the first. Halo 2 fails in every aspect over the first. The levels were still overly repeative and now you have the lack of open space in the levels. Its almost all corridors and hall ways and then when you are outside you are restricted so much you might as well not even bother putting it outside.

Halo 2 actually has worse AI and the new enemies they put it make the game unfair on Legendary. When you go up against 5 or 6 Brutes that all have the Brute shot and one hit kills you no matter what that isn't fair. It is ridiculous. As for the AI being bad, there are countless times on all levels of difficulty where I would just sit there and shoot the guy with out them even moving an inch.

I don't like playing Halo 2 online because of the way it is set up. Unless I know someone I can't join a party and just play what I want to play. Nope it is random and most of the time it is on the ing barrial grounds.

I play Halo on Monday nights...almost every monday for the past year now and we went back to Halo 1 because it was a lot more fun because the new maps suck for only 5-8 people. They are way too big.

Halo 2 is fun to play online but then again everyone I team up with is an idiot and doesn't know about what they are doing. I usually end up carrying the team with 15-20 kills most of the time.

Its not that Halo 2 was disappointing. Its that Halo 1 is still better in pretty much all aspects which is something a sequel should not do. If EA and Activision can pump out sequels every year and have them be better than the last then why can't bungie when it has 3 years? They just suck is all.

That's one way of looking at it, but compared to the original, where some maps were used twice in the campaign mode, there was certainly more variation, even if there was nothing quite as free-roaming as Assault on the Control Room

I'll agree that the game became irritatingly hard on Legendary, and that's one advantage that the first game has over the second. But as for the AI being worse, I haven't seen any issues in Halo 2 that weren't present in the first game. Vehicle AI is still dreadful, and enemies are still prone to standing still while you fill them with plasma. However, they also take more intelligent cover, and seek out better shooting angles. This was true of the first game as well, but not to quite the same extent.

Yeah, that's a common complaint about the online system, but since the first game had no online options whatsoever, surely Halo 2 can't be considered anything but an improvement?

That all depends on what map you play. Obviously if you spend all of you time on Coagulation, then you'll have nothing to do, but then the same was true of Sidewinder or in the first game. Areas like Midship or Ascension work perfectly well with a smaller number of players.

No argument here. I suck at H2, but that doesn't mean I'm not annoyed by some of the idiots you meet on there. It's probably the best advertisement against using the headset I can think of.

I can see why you're disappointed, since some aspects of the game were definitely worse. However, I thought there were a lot of improvements too, so I'm enjoying the game right now, and will probably do so for quite some time. At least the original Halo is still as fun as ever, so you can go back and play that time and time again. It's because of this great lasting value that the first game was such a classic, and only time will tell if Halo 2 can achieve the same lasting appeal.

One thing is that I am not all that dissappointed because I was not anticipating the game. I actually got it for free because my friend is a manager at gamestop. I don't even consider Halo to be all that great of a game. The only saving grace was the difficulty on Legendary. If it were not for that I would only have the Multiplayer which isn't something I buy a game for...except if it has a fantasic online mode(IE Rainbow Six 3. I love that game despite the flawed accuracy).

I agree that Halo had gaps in its AI here and there but I frequented them more in Halo 2 as well as new ones. I don't think I ever saw an enemy just constantly run into walls in Halo but I have seen it far to many times in Halo 2.

I will not admit the levels were more varied in Halo 2 though. I beat levels without even knowing it because the next one was a direct continuation for the most part.

    Halo 2
    Ship
    Earth
    Covenant Ship
    Covenant Base
    Halo Base(Master Chief)
    Halo Base(Covenant Arbitar)

    Halo
    Ship
    Halo Open Green Fields
    Halo Swamp Forest/Flood Chamber
    Halo Ice Fields
    Library
    Covenant Ship
    Halo Mountains

Maybe I am forgetting some stuff in Halo 2 but Halo seemed to be a lot more varied in its enviornments to me. Sure in each level the reused a lot of the same rooms and hall ways but when you got into wide open spaces and out side it was, for the most part, varied and unrepeative.

Good for you. At least your complaints are legitimate, and not just a bunch of whining comments from Halo: CE fanboys who were upset because the game didn't live up to their impossibly high expectations.

I haven't come across that particularly often, but I'll take your word for it. There are a couple of improvements too, though. I felt that Elites were generally far more intelligent than before, even if Grunts, Jackals etc. remained rather pathetic. Human AI was as shoddy in Halo 2 as it was in the first game, which was a bit of an irritation. Still, these AI mistakes happened rarely for me, and so didn't spoil the game too much.

Halo 2's earth section contained both wide open beaches and crowded cityscapes. The Delta Halo level combined temple chambers with grassy mountainsides, and the indoor levels tried to vary their layout (The Arbiter, for example, was interspersed with flying sections). It wasn't a huge improvement, with later levels becoming particularly repetitive, but it seemed to be a little more varied than the previous game, simply because you never had to trek through the same environment twice.

That said, just because the levels of Halo: CE were repetitive, that's not to say they weren't fun. Two Betrayals remains fantastic to play through, as does The Maw. In fact, combined with the superior plot and fairer difficulty level I'd say that the two games are almost equal, based on campaign alone. As an overall package, however, I'd still say the sequel appeals to me more. Frankly it doesn't matter, as they're both good games, and I'm sure I'll play through the original many more times in the future. It's not as if we don't have a choice, and if you don't like Halo 2, that's fine with me.

Okay after about 5 games in a row against people who were doing stand by, I'd like to announce that I have quit Halo 2. It's a grand game, but I'm sick of people cheating. Every time I rank up I see more and more of this BS. I can't help but feel like Bungie is ignoring this.

I hope no one here does stand by. If you do, I REALLY hope you don't think it isn't obvious. You don't lag on broadband. You're going to get your gamertag banned and possibly your clan deleted.
