I don't think rikku and tidus would've made a good couple. Like someone else said, they're better suited as brother and sister.
Tidus and Yuna on the other hand make a great couple. Yuna was a little..um helpless i guess and needed someone to protect her, which tidus willingly agreed to do. He promised to save her in the end. Right when he saw her, you could tell it was "love at first sight"
