Actually, at one point, Yuffie does say that Squall can be kinda cute/sweet (I don't remember which) sometimes. I think it's when you talk to them after Donald and Goofy join your team, and Squall tells you about the Dalmations. It's an optional scene, but it's the only thing I can think of that would serve as a basis for this rumor.
