    Default service pack 1 question.

i tried reinstalling my sp1 after i formatted my computer and when i click the autorun i get an error message saying

the automated page didn't start properly and i need an administrator account. but i'm positive i am the comp admin.

    or

you click 'no' on ie security warning dialog box. make sure you click yes and press f5.

i am not aware of it but i'm sure i didn't clicked no on something.

btw. when you have sp2 do you still need to install sp1?

If you have SP2 you cannot install SP1 as SP contains SP1 if that makes any sense, and if you find you cannot get it to run and you have no service packs (although most versions of windows XP now have SP1 built into it) on startup keep tapping F8 and then choose Safe Mode

As Baloki said, try installing in Safe mode.

Active X is definately not your problem. And don't activate it. >.<
