Eh, the US did it back in the 60's. They thought The Beatles were "long haired hippie freaks" for having cool longer hair. But it was never to that extent. I don't like it when people try to usurp people's individuality.
Oppressive governments will look for any chance to further their cause. It's very sad and a little frightening that this policy even exists, and hopefully in time, they'll see the light, or Kim will be ousted from power.

However that does create unity where North Korea has very little of...it is after all a very active Communist country...at least to my knowledge. Not to say its bad, but they are just looking out for their ideals just like how the Whites did the Chinese or how some ppl did to the slaves during the Civil War..
It's really sad that the level of fascism/socialism has reached this extreme in North Korea. I hope Kim Jong Il is thrown from power soon.

OK, I know it's sad, I know it's a serious problem a goverment can be so damn stupid, but in this case I believe it gets to a point of surrealistic idocy so great it's impossible not to laugh. Einstein said "There are two infinite things: the universe and idiocy. I am not sure of the first one, though".
