Yep. That was part of the reason Truman voted for the bomb - so Russia wouldn't enter the war for Japan and take the land. The bomb dropped, and I don't remember if Russia actually declared war or not, but by then it was too late either way.

Does anyone honestly believe that is going to change if Blair is voted out. I don't think so. Michael Howard is a weak weak man with wild economical ideas that will probably leave England in a Thatcheresque ruin. And who's the other guy? Charles Kennedy is it, of the Liberal "Token" Democrats? Blair isn't the problem, Bush is. If Blair goes a new puppet will come along.
Anyway, I love Britain, but that's because I'm British. More specifically, British, that's what it says on my passport. I also think that British sterotypes are not what they used to be abroad. BBC America demonstrates Britishness across the board and Jason Statham's rise to fame has helped too. Most countries with a t.v. will be able to see that Britain isn't all about bad teeth, posh accents and bowler hats the same way as people in Britain can see America isn't all fat people and morons. It's beautiful people, fat people and morons. No I'm kidding, you get my drift though.
There's nothing wrong with Blair, we just use him as a scapegoat, he has actually done a lot for this country, more than Bush has done for the USA.
They seemed to do fairly well last time, and while they are a pacifistic country now, they still have a formidable defense force. The only reason they don't have a nuclear armament is because they don't want one.

Anyway, I'm rather proud of being British, seeing as we've accomplished quite a lot for the relatively small country that we are, even if some of those were hardly for the better. I still find it remarkable that we even had such a large Empire.
