yeah bush has only done really um nothing at all but hurt this country.
The only thing Blair's government that have done that is of any worth is solving the Northern Ireland thing, which to be fair always looked like being solved.
Blair was usually just the puppet of the unelected and unaccountable Alistair Campbell, who often urged Blair to do things without consulting the Cabinet (which he is not supposed to do), such as the Millenium Dome. Blair went right ahead and announced it was being made, but the Cabinet had no idea about it. Same for giving the Bank of England being given control of Interest Rates - first they heard of it was when Gordon Brown announced it.
His Government have raised taxes substantially in order to throw money at the NHS, which has in fact become worse since Labour took power. The hospitals are dirty and the waiting times are horrendous - not to mention people from all over the world come here to claim asylum purely because the NHS is free. Another reason why the NHS has been harmed under the Labour Government is through its sheer obsession with targets. Patients are often rushed through in order to meet numbers.
Not only are the tax and health policies a shambles, let us also not forget foreign policy. I'm not just talking about being George W. Bushes' poodle, but the way in which the Government has allowed the EU to walk all over us, imposing sanctions on us without even trying to restrict them. And then their sheer determination to get Britain to accept the EU constitution (For Tony Blair's own ambitions to become President of Europe, when such a position is created) that when the referendum will be held, Labour have suggested that ALL European Union citizens will be allowed to vote on an issue that affects Britain alone - interestingly none of the other countries are planning on doing this for their referendums on the same issue.
Don't even get me started on their appalling immigration and crime policies, among other things...
the whole hospital thig is really stupid. i had to have braces when i was younger. the NHS had me on their list for 2 years (!!!!!!!) and then just sent a letter saying i wasn't an emergency case. i ended up going private (and still am....damn retainer) its costing a fortune because of blair and his hospital BS.
the only thing i agree on is the no euro thing. dunno if blair did it but i don't want euros. i get confussed as it is with pounds!!

As for the Euro thing, the three main parties' stances are this:
Labour: In favour of switching to the Euro, just not yet. Perhaps it will come mid-term if they win the forthcoming election.
Conservatives: Anti-Euro.
Lib Dems: Want to get the Euro in as soon as possible.
British poltics are more interesting than American politics.

Wait, boris, I'm confused. Why did you have to go to that place for braces? Couldn't you have just got them at a dentist in the first place?
Then again, I'm looking at it like an American. We don't get hospital services for free. We have to go to the doctor or the hospital and always pay.
you have to get the nhs to give the go ahead. plus the dentistsi go to cannot do braces. you have to get on a list coz i was going to have it done at a hospital...it all got confussing!!!
my the area i live in is still conservative and has been for the past million years!! i think that its the longest time in the country!!
i live near a town called belper and i think that it has the most pubs per person in derbyshire (30 i think!! its a small town!! about 10 000 i think...is that alot???) plus it used to have the most heroin per square metre in europe!! scary!! dunno if it still is.

2012 Olympics? Would those be the same Olympics that everyone is going insane over in NY? The mayor wants to build a stadium in NYC that costs A LOT of tax dollars and every 5 seconds we have a commercial that's like "SAY NO TO WEST SIDE STADIUM!!!"
lol YOu know in all my life being in the USA I've never once been to New York City.Heck the closest I've been to NYC is Boston.I've been everywhere else like Alaska(literally all over alaska).WEll I basicly been almost to every state except for montanna and new mexico.But I always wonder what NYC is like then someone told me it stinks so it never cross3ed my mind again.
I think NYC is beautiful. I like the people in the more urban parts of NY better too. There may be more violence in those parts, but they aren't all snobby and annoying like people in the suburbs.
There's no place quite like NYC. On any given day, on any given street, at any given time, you can see anything, from the beautiful and unique, to the horrible and violent. New York certainly does have an edge about it, and folks who aren't from the area often feel as if the people in the city can be harsh or even mean-spirited, but you'll encounter that anywhere to be frank. Deep down, New Yorkers have as big a heart as any and when push comes to shove, they mean well. Most of the time, we're just in such a rush that we can't engage in conversations but instead must just grunt hellos such as:
"Hey"
"How you doin?"
and the like.
To jump back on topic, having encountered people from all over the world, I am often struck by the pace of the language that is spoken. New Yorkers and Long Islanders especially, are known to be quick talkers, and it becomes more evident with every encounter. I've noticed that in some cases, people from England actually embrace our fast talking and can quickly adapt their ears to understand how we speak and vice versa. I'm not sure as to how or why, perhaps it's due entirely to the people I've met, but it seems that the English have somehow mastered the melting pot technique when it comes to language.
Also, Jess, the reason you and I both keep seeing those darned commercials for the stadium is because it's beginning to become a real hot button issue. Building the stadium would displace literally thousands of families and would probably congest traffic even further since the construction would take several years and would not be an easily reached work place. The reasons TO build the stadium range mostly in the all but guaranteed revenue it would bring in, both for the sports games played there and also, on the off chance NY does get the Olympics, it would serve as our main stadium for all the opening and closing ceremonies.
In my honest opinion, I don't think NY needs the Olympics or should have it, I think either France or London would be better choices, but it seems like everything is falling into place for the Olympics to hit the Big Apple.
I think I've talked about everything except for the point of this thread, and for that, I apologize greatly.
