Porn in forums

No no no no no no NO. Adding a porn forum is the quickest way to degrade - and eventually kill - a MB.

Someone please slap Aaron for me. I didn't put in a year of hard work there for this.

I would but I don't want to start a flame war here or at LFF. Remember what happened the last time Aaron started doing stuff at the site? Feel free to go to FG and make a thread. It'll be keen.

I don't mind a porn forum in a FF board.

I mean FF boards have general chats that aren't even about FF, so it's a bit hypocritical to say that porn forums shouldn't be in FF forums since they're off-base.

That doesn't mean every FF forum should have one. I personally don't care. Would I visit it? Maybe, but that doesn't mean I'd be at the forum 24/7. I hate how some people here say "I would never visit a porn forum and I never like porn"...bullsh**. If the FBI were to search your computers, I guarantee they'd find porn material you opened. I wish people wouldn't look at porn as some kind of evil and sin...especially since many of us are atheists(talk about irony).

If you don't like the forum, don't go. It's so easy to ignore. You would need a pretty strict moderator in a porn forum though, and I don't think that the theory of porn attracting immaturity holds up. We have enough immature idiots on the forums now, and they're banned everytime. It would be no different for a general chat forum.

I don't think a porn forum would degrade the forum as a whole, since each forum seems to have its own community. A bunch of little crybabies in The Lounge certainly wouldn't ruin it for the people in Eyes on Each Other. They're all located in their own little nests that they would hardly bother anyone. I mean I know a lot of people here only go to General Chat/World Events/The Lounge exclusively. I know I do...so I don't care what happens in the other forums.

I guess to avoid the rated X rating and keep the family feel for all ages we shouldnt have one at this particular forum however. Since after all kids do go to these boards. Maybe if its permission based but i think people could lie and stuff...bah @_@ I dont mind if kids watch this if they actually could take it maturely but most dont so i just dont feel that a porn forum would work on this particular board especially if the admins still want to keep it PG-ish.

The truth is that FG was a forum with lots of sexual innuendo and conversations about adult activities long before I really knew what LFF was and several of our own regular members had expressed interest in having an adult content forum so we added one. It was removed eventually since some people felt it wasn't working out at that time with the idea that we might reopen it sometime in the future. Although some staffers are firmly against it and were against it before and that's part of the reason why it hasn't been readded now. Now this year even before people from elsewhere suggested a porn forum one of our own regular members recently promoted to staffer suggested we readd an adult content forum When people came to us and suggested a porn forum I mainly supported it because I thought there was enough interest amongst our own regular members. Apparenty I misjudged though and some of the people that supported the adult content forum wouldn't support a porn forum ( although they wouldn't mind one thread for links) whilst some wouldn't mind a porn forum since they couldn't see the harm that the people against it thought would do to the site. Since FG has allowed links before they'd just be getting put in a specific forum instead. Now the people on staff that said yes to the porn forum weren't really bothered whether they had one or not and were quite willing to give up the idea, in my case for the sake of peace and not having people go off on tangents and staff that weren't for it but didn't mind the adult content forum said why not reopen adult content instead so the former said ok. I would have had too, if I hadn't known that the people that argued against the porn forum would do so for similar reasons against the adult content forum. Sure enough those people popped up with those reasons. Eventually even people for the adult content forum changed to saying no for that too since people were leaving and getting moralistic and everything. It just seems futile to continue the debate right now.

Anyway *end ramble* It's just there are two sides to stories, others here have shared their side, I just thought I'd share mine

While you're at it, though, you might as well start a Spyware/Virus forum so that people can get all their infection needs in one stop. Not that a porn forum wouldn't lead to virus infections anyways, especially if you made the forum IE-only.

Anyway yeah that's actually quite a valid point Bleys and would actually be one of the better reasons for not adding a porn forum I think. We're *not* adding a porn forum to the FG forums anyway though.

Only if you surf a lot of porn. If you do, you'll eventually get something like ShopNav or Golden Palace Casino, which equate to the syphilis of the online world.

Think of a message board like your favorite pub. You go there quite often, you share a round or two (or three) with your friends, you take your girlfriend and family there on occasion.

Now imagine what it would be like if the owners of the pub decided to hire strippers. Even if the strippers were in a different room from the main room, the pub wouldn't quite be the same, would it? It would start attracting the wrong type of people, and you'd probably think twice before bringing your family there, or even telling your family about it, wouldn't you?

The same holds true for a message board community that introduces a porn forum.

Unforunetly that depends on what kind of board those are. This board is family friendly, however not every board out there might be. So i dont see your point. Every message board has its own rules, EoFF just happens to be the enviroment that is for the family while ForumXX is not.

A humorous note on the family forum thing. The video rental chain that is regional near me carries porn and they are called family video. Thats pretty ed up and funny if you ask me. Also interesting is that the place is more friendly than Blockbuster or other places and would much rather take my family there. I don't know where I am going with this but...yeah.

Yeah, my local video store, called Purple Potomas, is pretty popular. Although it's not called Family Video, the porn section _IS_RIGHT_NEXT_TO_THE_FAMILY_FILMS. Films from Disney and Pixar...right next to the porn section. The store puts them there because they say kids don't understand porn, and young teenagers always go for action movies. So action movies are put far away from the porn.

It's so hilarious to see kids just stare into the porno section while checking out videos like The Lion King. XD

Family video puts the porn in a room near the back. It almost looks like an entrerance to an employee only area. I rent movies from the kids section all the time...mainly because they are free.

I once wandered into the porn section on accident when I was like... 12. It was a secluded ish area but there was a corridor and I was like, more movies ^__^ and innocently wandered in. When I came out, I felt so embarassed

Uh anyway, porn in forums... not too big a fan. Mature discussion is fine, but actual porn is like... go look for it online, you can already find plenty. o_0

I think it's because the local owners have more to lose. PP is about $1 cheaper for a 5 day rental than blockbuster, but they still charge late fees...even though blockbuster doesn't.

I still don't know why the porn section is near family stuff though. I mean, I know their reasoning behind it: Teenagers are more likely to be tempted to rent porn(most of them are underage) than young kids...but you can't just expose youngs kids to it. The store is still pretty big though, I suggest putting the porn section near the videogames...no wait...maybe next to the comedy section...well, I don't know...now it doesn't seem that dumb now to put porn near kid movies...but porn is too popular not to rent. I honestly don't know where one would put porn movies, the store says that 1/4th the rentals are porn anyways.

Yeah, Frontline(PBS programming) estimated there are about 250000 porn websites out there. I was shocked that there's ONLY 250k. I thought that number was in the millions. But still, porn gets more traffic than any other website-genre on the net.
