Could it be cactuars? - you find them in the thunder plains (which is dark) and they do give you chocobo wings which are vital to get the great power of hastega.

khimari's legendary weapon. the spirit lance. after activating e cactuar stones a ghost comes in southern thunder plains. Find it and press square or somethin to sensd a lightnin bolt to a tower and fina cjhest containing the weapon
