Squaresoft (before) and Square-enix's (after) policy is "Make every game a new experience", the whole nature of FF is that it changes a lot every game. btw, zidane was in ffix which is on the ps not ps2. as for the complication of the story, that was only in ff7, in ff6 and ealier ones had the most simple story ever. ff8 9 10 and 12 have much more complicated and sophisticated stories than them.
