Yes, I said thirteen. I think for FF XIII should detour form the likes of FF XII with it's battle system and setup and got more classical like I-IX.
Does anyone feel the same?

Final Fantasy XI:
Name: Scarmiglione
Lv. 17 Red Mage (I'm newer)
Currently Stuck at: Valkurm Dunes
Each Final Fantasy to come out has evolved from its predecessor (With the exception of IX for obvious reasons) and has featured innovative areas of battle which is unlike the last. So, the next Final Fantasy takes the last Final Fantasy and grows on that. I sincerely doubt they'll bring back the ATB system, and if they do it would be extremely different than what we're used to. (Like X-2 for instance.)
I mean, you even saw what happened when Square tried to go back to their roots and make FFIX classical, a lot of people rebelled against it. To answer your question though, no I don't feel the same.
it'll be nice if it went towards the FFIX and earlier styles. they were the best!

Trust No one
I love the classical type games. I also think we need more fork-wielders.
I DO WHAT I WANT. YOU HAVE PROBLEM?
I think FF12's system isn't bad... of course none of us have played it to know for sure how good it works in that game. In Xenosaga, it works fine.
Anyhow, I don't think 9 was too bad at all. It didn't get nearly as scrutinized as 8 did for the terrible Junctioning and Draw system has. Sure some love it, some hate it. The same can be said of every game. There are people who hate FF6. To each their own.
FF12 breaks the random battle mold, and I think that fine, but I agree that 13, when it is made, should go back to random battles.

Current RPGs: Final Fantasy XII
I think it's a good thing that FF12 doesn't look anything like it's predecessors. In fact, from what I've seen of FF12, it looks like it's going to be the best Final Fantasy game in a very long time. And no, I didn't say the same about 8, 9 and 10 before I played them.
I don't really care if they break away from tehir roots, as long as certain elements stay to make it feel like an FF game. Remember, change is the reason we don't have FF1's battle system, sounds and graphics. It's evolution.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree with that quote. You act like IX didn't innovate the series at all. It had:Originally Posted by Ichimonji

The list goes on. Saying that Final Fantasy IX didn't evolve from its predecessors is like saying cheese tastes like pie.
ff9s friendly monsters were gay.
I'd say FF9 evolved in a different way than the other games. While they in the games prior to FF9 tried to make new and better features, they tried to combine the best from all worlds in FF9. Ofcourse, some parts turned out better than others (trance, anyone? ;[).Originally Posted by Hinky the Pickle
Personally, I love changes in the world of Final Fantasy. I like to find out new stuff about each new battle system, and master all the different features when it comes to building your characters. That's a very important part of the game for me.
And crash26821, if you don't have anything more constructive to add to the topic, don't bother clicking that "New Reply" link.

I get the rest but wasn't learning spells from the weapons REALLY overdone at that point in time.Originally Posted by Hinky the Pickle
I can't think of any precedent for it. The most overdone system is simply purchasing spells or learning them "naturally" at specified levels.
we need more canivorous cannibals and big swords maybe a return of the gunblade and gloves for old time sake even the old fashion wrench
LET THE HAMMER FALL
First of all, I never said that FFIX didn't innovate anything to the series. Of course it had some innovative material; if it didn't it would be the exact same game. I'm saying it didn't much evolve from FFVIII. This was done purposely though so FFIX could return to its roots; a tribute to the older generation. Remember FFIX was originally going to be called Final Fantasy Gaiden, but they switched it to an actual numerical sequel because it was created so massive.Originally Posted by Hinky the Pickle
Your conclusion didn't support your introduction by the way. In your introduction you were talking about innovative material, and the conclusion gave a bad simile to evolution... So it made no sense. Sure Friendly Monsters, and Chocographs are innovative, so are the graphics, the world, the characters, and so on... But they aren’t evolutions; they're optional mini-games which have no real affect on the mandatory sections of the game.
I'm sorry you were offended by my post, and I was by no means putting FFIX down, it's one of my favourite Final Fantasies. I was just stating the truth in my opinion.
Ok, guys, lets not get huffy about this. Remember, its a game, and just like with other games, such as chess, monopoly, pin the tail on the donkey, and fun with handcuffs (My personal favorite) there will be differing opinions on execution, style, and even basic premise.
Yes, in some ways FFIX was very revolutionary. For starters, it didn't advance the general technology level, a trend that had been going on since the beginning of final fantasy. Nor did it posess a magic system that was even close to anything previously used, insofar as I have ever heard. Friendly monsters weren't totally innovative, tactics featured them a little bit, but the execution was new. By the same token, it was, in fact, a return to the truly old school, somewhere between ff1 and ffV, which I think was a very smart move on the part of square, but it just didn't turn out right. Sometimes even the best of ideas fail. Personally, my only problem with IX (and I know this is purely personal, so don't flame me) was that THE main character was a thief. THE main character, with 'the' in caps. Part of my attraction to ff has always been a powerful lead character, and when zidane pops into my head, powerful isn't exactly what automatically comes to mind. But, as I say, to each his own.
Anyway, the point is don't get yourselves all worked up over a game. It is, after all, only an escape from real life... (Shudders)... curse you REAL LIFE!!!!!
YOU SPOONY BARD!!!!
I think they should break it down and give us something entirely different and new, get those innovative gears in motion.
