    Soem good anime IMHO are

    Neon Genesis Evangelion+Death and Rebirth+End of Evangelion(simply the best)
    FLCL
    Juuni Kokki(12 kingdoms)
    Berserk
    Full Metal Alchemist
    Ghost in the Shell:Stand Alone Complex
    Excel Saga
    Jin-Roh:the wolf brigade
    Cowboy Bebop
    Full Metal Panic-Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu

    Now about your question concerning Evangelion,there are many people who love it and consider it the best anime of all times(including me)but there are also many who hate it and believe it is crap,what i can tell you is that Eva is not for everyone but if you liked Perfect Blue(orthe game Xenogears)you will probably like it
