Well it is possible for a world in 20 years. FF II has a town named Mysidia and so does FF IV. Coincidence? I think not.

    Vaan - "Hey, you!"
Penelo - "Yeah, you! The one reading this sig at this very moment!"
Vaan - "Interested in playing FFXII International Zodiac Job system?"
Ashe - "But you have no knowledge of the Japanese language?"
    Fran - "....We could help...."
Balthier - "That's right, Fran! Just click on Crossblades' thread on the very bottom of this signature and it will show you all license grid translations, magicks and tecks locations, and other changes that were made!"
Basch - "Don't forget though. Swap Magic is needed to play this game if you don't own a japanese PS2."
Vaan - "Also remember that if you played the original, you'll have an easier time playing the international version. We hope you enjoy the International Zodiac Job System experience. See ya then!"

    Reference? I think so.

Because one town has the same name doesnt negate the rest of the facts.

    It's two different spellings.

    Vaan - "Hey, you!"
Penelo - "Yeah, you! The one reading this sig at this very moment!"

This argument could go on forever...

    I got to thinking well...
FFI did have time travel and in FFVI the world changed in the course of about a year. Maybe they don't all take place in the same world but what about the same galaxy (kinda like Phantasy Star)?
The Mysidians could have used the Great Whale to go to another planet (ie IV) and Kain was smuggled onboard?
I know I'm reaching but whose to say Square won't try some similar scheme to get the green?
I think the name Highwind is to
    reference that they are Dragoons.
Also isn't the Tower of Babel in just about every Adventure Game/RPG out there?

Yes, but if there was an event that big in either world, wouldnt we have heard about it/seen it paid out.

And there is, of course, the fact that Kain was an added reference for the re-releases, and not in the original.

Babel is referenced a lot, yes, but it's a Biblical reference and all.

If they're set in the same place, I don't think it's the same solar system. Doesn't FFIV end with a view of the solar system? Also, good 'ol Sephiroth from FFVII has an attack that uses most of the solar system (in that game, the planets have the same names as in our solar system. Jupiter, Mars, the whole shebang). If (and this a very shaky if) they're set in the same place, it would probably just be the same universe or something.

I think Square just likes making references to other games in the series. There is a Garland in I and IX, for example, and a Cid in every game exept I. Though it would be interesting if they were conected.

IX is overflowing with references to past FF games.

No, because he isn't Richard's son.
