European Constitution

Anyway, I'm back to the forum, I have been residing in Cuba for a while, so I haven't accessed the internet much. Well, it's been a while since I have returned, so anyway...finally I have something to post about.

What do you think about the European Constitution? Spain will be the first country to vote in the referendum, and of course, I expect the "Yes" to come up, since my country has a long tradition on being stupid. Anyway, I've been looking through the document and I can say I find it absolutely pathetic. Although the first impression is good, it talks about the equality, social progress, freedom of expression and several other lies, once you get deep into it you can see they have quite an interesting concept of social progress, turning around privatization of public service, militarism and all those sort of things.

Anyway, just want to know the opinions about it.

Being American I have no clue about the consitution but now I feel I must ask another more pressing and interesting issue...is europe thinking about being like the United States? By that I mean would all the countries that sign this document become "states" under a higher governement order that has juristiction over everything? Will there be a national language and such and such.

I should. It was quite a while there, and I was with the people and all, no tourist crap (hell, I went through the whole island with a car, from Havana to Guantanamo, and worked there and all...no, not in the military base).

No. That would never be accepted, several countries united under diplomatic (and militar) alliance is possible, but the loss of the countries as they are would never be approoved by the Europeans.

Basically, we share a constitution wich ironically is not a constitution, but some bullcrap document with more laws refered to the market than to society. Can you imagine it? A lot of market laws risen to constitutional level! It makes me want to vomit. I mean, it's amazing how so many Europeans critizize the United States while all the things they are critizizing are being passed in front of their eyes. I never was proud of Europe, but right now I am starting to detest it.

What did you expect? The European Union was never more than a Trading Union. It was founded as one.
Money is the most important thing in this world. And if the represantatives want to play a round of trading chess and call their results 'constitution'. Well, if they want to.... I think, this is no reason for getting bad feelings. Of course it is silly, but this is capitalism.

Having a constitution which potentially could create the position of President and also creates an armed force which undermimes NATO seems to me like the first steps towards making Europe into the United States of Europe. While it's a nice idea to some, I just can't see a USE working due to all the language and cultural differences.

Most countries have a constitution dude.The who point have the continent of europe making is.Is because all european countries or most of them are allies now.Some post WW2 mess that I dont wanna go into.

edit- most europeans are bilingual anyway. its not liek america because these countries are so damn close to each other.They have to pick up the neiboring country's language.
