Total bases allowed, excellent. And you got rid of the awful GIDP for hitters and replaced it with the fun Triples stat. I approve.

I think the stats are pretty good and balanced. I guess I'm glad you approve.

    What about doubles?

EDIT: I'd also propose K/9 instead of TBA.

K/9 is the same as strikeouts because in the end we will all have the same number of innings. I love TBA because it is the closest to the category I wanted, slugging percentage allowed. Of course, I'll end up being last in it, but it's still a good category.

    I wouldn't mind seeing doubles...

We didn't end up with the same amount of innings last year. As I recall, only two teams (I think) ended up at the maximum I set up in 2004.

I put the innings limit back to 1250, which is the default. While not everyone will use all those innings, most will, and everyone will be in the 1200-1270 range, making K/9 very close to K itself, thus giving K's an inflated significance.

Total Bases Allowed is good because it penalizes pitchers who give up a lot of extra base hits even if those hits don't necessarily turn into earned runs. This helps remove a pitcher's luck from the equation somewhat.

I considered including doubles, but I feel there should be an equal number of hitting and pitching categories (there are 10 each plus the two fielding stats). In order to add doubles I'd have to add another pitching stat. The pitching stats I considered adding were IP, CG, and K/9. I already stated why I didn't add K/9. IP is somewhat of a cheap stat and can be manipulated by smartly starting as many pitchers as possible the day you are likely to go over the limit (you get all the innings you earn on the day you exceed the limit, thus allowing up to 1270 innings or so). IP also makes people who load up on innings early in the season have artificially inflated points. CG is somewhat of a dubious stat since you can pitch an 8 inning complete game (on the road) yet still pitch poorly and lose. I'd say close to half of all CGs earned fall into this category. Livan Hernandez is a prime example of this type of pitcher.

In short, I wanted to use stats that accurately reflected the quality of the players used. This way, players are valuable in fantasy that are valuable in real baseball games, not just because they happen to excel at earning some half-meaningless stat. Of course, you could say saves and holds are half-meaningless, but the players who have the best stats in these categories generally do help their teams quite a bit, and how else can you make various good relief pitchers valuable?

Not using all of your innings is the first step towards losing.

another important fantasy lesson: never trust a Dodger.

seriously though, I know I have a team in all major league sports that I absolutely do not trust enough to draft players from.

    Huh?

Would lessons 5 and 6 be:

Never get involved in a land war in Asia
Never trust a Sicilian when death is on the line

    Take care all.
