I agree with what not so Loony DaN said, that there are a lot more role models out there than it seems, all better role models than I to be sure.
Being a role model is not so much what a person is in every case, but what they can represent or awaken in others sometimes as well. A person can be a role model without trying to help others, but by being true to themselves and in doing so, can perhaps motivate others to follow in that way of life. In a forum, where words really are our only source of interaction, role models do indeed come out of these words, whether you find someone enlightening as I do with most people here, compassionate, witty, or just thought-provoking.
In my mind, overall, a true role model is someone who does things others find inspiring without attempting to show that they can be inspiring or boost themselves, but more to find the benefit within inspiring and in turn, perhaps being inspired by others.
