Does anyone know what the point of <tbody> tags in HTML are?

<b>EDIT:</b> Can someone please update <i>&l<i></i>t;tbody&<i></i>gt;</i> to <i>&lt;tbody&gt;</i> in the title as it didn't convert to HTML and it looks really ugly now?
