    Default EOFF Iraqi Correspondant

While I'm here overseas, I figure I might as well keep you as well informed with unconfidential information as I can.

The terrorists are targeting children to spreads fear in Iraqi people wishing to support the US. Any children seen talking to US troops, accepting food, bottles of water, anything at all, are being killed. If your anything like me than hearing this infuriates you.

Also along the lines of killing, the Iraqi who wish to help as police or Army National Gaurd are going to extremes to make sure they aren't recognized. These people are competely covering themselves with cloth, ski masks, anyhting they can so they can't be recognized. They fear that if the terrorists find out who they are than their families will be killed.

Other than that all I hear for now is the same everyday stuff like, a mortar hit in our camp here, an ambush was set up there, IED's in spots normally clean. It's still deadly over here.

What factions predominantly support the terrorists? I've been somewhat confused by the whole Sunni/Shiite issue.

I think killing any child is horrible- evil even.
And people living every day of their lives afraid must be awful- I hope they all remain safe.
By the way, Good Luck out there and be very careful, none of us want you getting hurt or anything!
    God bless!

    1) The terrorists aren't like one organization that is supported by one faction or another. They are a bunch of militant groups scattered across mostly middle Iraq (not North or South).
    2) The names "Sunni" and "Shi'ite" are not exactly political or militant factions. They're more like denominations of Islam. Saddam Hussein was of the Sunni sect and thus prosecuted the Shi'ites.
The blood feud between the two sects of Islam stems from a disagreement over who should become the next Caliph (leader of Islam). Since Muhammed had left no one to take his place, it was uncertain who should become the leader. The procession of power flowed without war or bloodshed until it got to Ali. When Ali assumed the Caliphate, the general cousin of the previous caliph refused to recognize him as the caliph and tried to claim it himself. He and his followers became the Sunni, and Ali and his followers became the Shi'ite. The constant bloodshed came about because Ali and his son were murdered by the Sunni.

So, Sunni/Shi'ite = religious sect (not political party).
Terrorist = bad guys usually in small groups that aren't exactly working together or sponsored by a certain "faction."

It's like a bunch of warring clans with different leaders that are trying to take over the country.

How can they kill the children like that? They're picking off their own without no kind of remorse. Animals...vicious evil beings. Who can take the life of a child who's only trying to survive? It's ludacrous and now I'm extremely ticked off...

Cowards fight like that. But although it's sick and twisted, they have no other choice.

    It's still deadly over here.
Which is exactly why our troops shouldn't be over there.

I can understand the "terrorists" killing U.S. troops. However, killing innocent children is crossing the line. But these bastards have been crossing the line for some time now, haven't they?

agreed. I mean...that line was destroyed way before they started killing children, but there's a boundary between twisted bastards who kill the poeple trying to survive and the other ones...

So are you under the impression that the terrorists are only killing people because U.S. troops are in Iraq, or do you just not care about anyone who isn't American?

I can just see American troops tossing their guns to the kids and saying "Protect yo damn self! See ya!"

    O_o

The whole killing children thing is completly screwed up. How many people do really stoop to that? It's hard for me to believe many people- even the terrorists- can do such a thing. Geez, I hate humanity, I'm getting the next train to Candyland.

It's good to hear you're well, but like everyone else said... distressing to hear about the current ways of "fighting". Stay safe, and drive more big machines to tell us about .

    Signature by rubah. I think.

What excatly is your job over in Iraq? How long is your deployment?

I'm currently a cadet at the Air Force Academy (beat Army!), and I've still got another year and a half before I get my commission. Who knows, I might find myself deployed soon after that. Thanks for doing what you do.

The thing that sucks about correspondense from Iraq is that he can't sit on his ass at the computer all day. :/
