    Oh my god.

PETA is even against the use of Seeing Eye dogs by the blind. If that's not absolutely ridiculous, I don't know what is. And I don't see what the point is in dumping paint on people who wear fur, it's seems completely counter-productive to me. I honestly believe that many of the PETA extremists are off their rockers.

That's just stupid, being against the Blind Dog service. It's excellent. It helps people, and the dog often gets a good home and good training. They have a really strong bond with their owner and it's a very nice thing.

Kinda like Jehova's Wittnesses who refuse to shut the hell up and leave the rest of us alone? My god, you're exactly right!

well, y'know what, if someone believes that animals are equal to humans, of course they'll go to extremes such as that.

How would you feel if there were farms that raised children to be eaten under cruel conditions? What would you do? Would you resort to arson? You sure as hell would. To them it IS the holocaust, every day. Think about how you'd feel if people were parading around with the hides of children on their backs.

Where is the line drawn? It's wrong to eat flesh that's our species? It's wrong to eat the flesh of those who think? How do you know cows don't think? Why is it ok for them to feel pain, but not people? Why does having sentient thought automatically make your pain so much more important?

There's nothing they can do? Yeah, I bet black people and women who had no rights 100 years ago were told that too. Did it take extremes to change that? Yes.

I'm not saying that PETA doesn't go overboard sometimes. They most certainly do do some foolish things, but frankly I'm disturbed by the lack of compassion and judging going on in this thread.

Thinking that human beings and other animals have equal rights is immoral by my standards.

Generally, the cause of the PETA is at least somewhat just, but many of the methods they extol, as well as some of the extremer measures they use, are not.

Because they don't fight back. If cows were capable of rational thought, you would think that after thousands of years of domestication that they might realize "Huh, I'm only munching on this grass so that I can be milked and/or slaughtered" and do something about it. But they don't.

Whenever I hear someone shouting that Animals Have the Same Rights as People, all I hear is self-righteous crap.

As well you should. Animals aren't on the same level as humans, and their life should not be valued as such, it's ludicrous.

Here's how I see it. I eat cow. I die. I go into ground. Grass eats me. Cow eats grass. Son/Daughter of mine eats cow. They die. They go into ground. Grass eats them. Etc etc etc.

It's cyclical. Meat is good for me, it keeps me healthy and strong. So I eat it.

I do agree that there are better ways of killing food, better ways of raising food, and pretty much better ways of doing anything that has to do with food, any kind of food. But there are also much better ways of getting your point across.

You speak of extremism in the movements for black rights and women's rights, but the only extremes they went to consisted of getting locked up for speaking in public. That's hardly as extreme as sending a gift basket to a psychopathic cannibal to prove a point.

Honestly, I do feel that if PETA were a little more dignified and a lot more humble about their message, they would have more respect, and once you have someone's respect you obviously have their attention.

    Signature by rubah. I think.

    The circle of life.

I agree with your entire post. PETA has earned the reputation of being extremists. I know few people who take them seriously anymore.

I'm pretty sure PETA is in the realm of animals having more rights than people.

PETA is beyond logic. The worst they can do is yell and get in the way of me, so let them do whatever the heck they want to do.

Every living, breathing creature deserves to be treated humanely and humans, who are the ones with the larger brain capacity, should have the mentality to show compassion towards these creatures in the methods that they use to butcher them before eating them.

Humans are no better than any other animal, plant, bacteria, etc. Still, we can and do kill plenty of other life forms. That's just how it goes. However, there is a difference between eating an animal and slaughtering an animal so that rich women can wear fur. There are plenty of inhumane acts we commit against animals, and if PETA's crazed antics help reduce some of the less acceptable animal abuses, then they are contributing to society. They are still nutcases, but crazy lunatics are a part of life as well. At least their net effect is marginally positive.

Well, yeah, but PETA is still way over the top.
