Default Not trying to be a troll, but PETA scares me...

PETA (People for the Ethical treatment of animals) scares me... I have nothing against Vegetarians or Vegans, thats their choice and it's fine with me, but PETA takes it a tad to far. I'm not some idiot who hates the environment, I care about it quite a bit, and I'm not one to be cruel to animals, but when you have people who say that arson is perfectly acceptable to achieve their goals, That is not activism, thats terrorism.
What really ticks me off is how they started a new campaign comparing battery farms and the like to concentration camps.
*takes deep breath* Battery farms are quite cruel, but when you compare a natural act of predation (killing for food), to mass Genocide of a human people, I have to draw the line . Tactics like these are just as immoral and disgusting as what they protest. Sorry if anyones offended, but I had to get that off my chest.

You may have heard the story of Armin Meiwes, the German guy who got together with another guy via the Internet and then killed, butchered, and ate him. PETA sent this man a gift basket and made a public statement that what he did is no different than us eating animal meat.

That's just one of the numerous atrocities they've committed. They're scum.

When people have extremist beliefs most often it means that they're going to be a freakin' idiot, that's why they're called extremists.

As far as I'm concerned, there's absolutely nothing wrong with butchering and eating animals. Sure, I'd rather that the animals were killed in the most humane way possible, but eating other animals is just one of the ways humans survive. It's part of nature. Being humane about how the animals are killed isn't something nature cares about very much. Pretty much any animal that feeds on others, carnivore or omnivore, the manner in which they get their prey usually involves death that isn't in the least bit humane.

Comparing genocide to battery farms and cannibalism to eating meat is just, frankly, disgusting.

I'd like to play devil's advocate here. Technically, meat is not completely necessary to human survival. There are many other available sources of protein. Furthermore, if we wish to ever transcend our animalistic tendencies, then we should strive to avoid causing harm to other living things in order to satisfy our urges.

That being said, nothing beats a plump, juicy steak.

I don't know too much about them, but from what I've heard they do go to extremes from time to time. I wouldn't call them terrorists though.

Just because a group of little upstarts have formed their own dumb organization doesn't change a thing. People are still going to kill animals. People are still going to eat animals. There's absolutely nothing they can do about it, so why bother? Because it makes them feel better, that's why.

There are tons of anti-meat organisations out there, and if you want yours to be noticed you'll most likely have to resort to extreme measures, like PETA do. As little effect as your campaigns might have, if you can get people's attention then your cause will be able to make some progress at least.

That said, it doesn't make their methods are any less stupid. Comparing battery farming to mass genocide isn't going to convert anyone to their cause, and will most likely cause more people to oppose their views. There can be no doubt that they've shot themselves in the foot with this one.

I am going to say that truly, eating another human is just eating meat if you want to go down to the basics. Its just its not looked good upon to eat your own species...but it is meat. However that gift basket thing is just pushing it >_> Geez...

Animal rights are good, but any extremist are often stupid and blinded by their mission in life, like someone else has said. People are going to eat animals, but going against people shooting endangered animals for their fur is a good type of Animal Rights.

PETA does not so much scare me as they amuse me. They amuse me for the same reason we laugh at things like the Darwin awards, or those 'Worlds Stupidest Criminals' shows - because its funny to watch stupid people make asses of themselves and, if we're lucky, get whats coming to them. I remember reading this story one time about them going to teach the evils of milk at some scottish elementary school. The students all threw their milk at them, totally drenching them, and I think even chased them out of the school laughing. Now that was hilarious.
    Sig under construction.

Peta payed sealers, I guess that's what they're called, to butcher baby seals in ways that no one does, so they could record it and make a big fuss, to try and shut down the sealing stuff.

Not much they can say that'll make them look any worse.

Also Pamela Anderson's a spokesperson for them, or something.
