This rumor goes around with every FF game. Square hasnt said anything about ending the series, and since they've decided that it, along with Kingdom Hearts and Dragon Quest/Warrior, will be one of the three pillars of the company, ending it seems doubtful.
Not to mention that FFVII: Dirge of Cerebrus is coming out way after XII.
I saw, on a gaming site (could have been IGN), that Square has put FFXIII on the list for new games coming out on the next-gen consoles.
Maybe it's wrong, but I think they'll keep them coming, anyways.

I imagine XIII comes out for PS2 and XIV comes out for PS3, b/c their games always ran in series of 3s... and don't tell me X-2 counts...
Um... PS2 had X, XI, and XII. XIII will be on the PS3 if the trend continues.
I read years ago that XII would be the last, but I don't think that is still true.

FF13-15 are licenesed titles, so there will be at least 15 Final Fantasys
yup they have been working on them and as far as i know they are already 25% done through alot of the work of 13 ^_^... 13 has been in progress since 2000-01 though >.< I remember seeing sketches for it YEARS ago!
IN a recent interview with the square pres. they dont feel that they will be planning an end to the series till 13 is complete.
Where are these sketches you speak of? I must see them. I want to see developmental pictures and sketches of XIII, and now. Please. ...
After FFVIII, Square announced FFIX-XI and released some extremely preliminary screenshots and artwork for all three games. Nothing about FFXII, though, and certainly nothing about FFXIII.

I dont have the sketches nor could i ever help you with finding them... like i said, its been years. I am sure that after this year they will release them when they are more ready with it.
What I do know is that I remember seeing one of the sketches for thirteen and they seemed to have a few new "species" or "races" of humanoids in the works... the sketches were just sketches but it does seem that they have some amazing creatures to come ^_^
You're probably talking about the sketches of what eventually became FFIX, from when it had the job system and that chocobo-copter and a black-furred and masculine-looking Freya and all. Again, Square didn't release anything for FFXII or FFXIII back then.
its true i COULD be mistaken... but ill just assume i was right with myself cuz i remembering it saying XIII... Doesnt matter cuz its not like you guys can see what i saw ya know!? for now lets say i didnt see them for the sake of this :P

No, definitely not. I still wonder how people come to that conclusion, but there's no truth to this rumor. Last indication was an interview from Square president Wada in Mainichi Interactive (translated in http://www.rpgfan.com/news/2004/1186.html) mentioning that some innovations designed for FFXII might become standard for the series.
In the meantime, Wada mentioned in one interview that work was underway on FFXIII as well.
