Well, I'd say the rumor that rumors are going around certainly is true.
I don't think they'd come out and say that the series is ending because companies always want to be able to create more if the current product does well.
If FFXII does well, the series will continue. Even if it doesn't, it still will probably continue.

The only way there's going to be a "Final" Final Fantasy is if either the world ends or Square dies somehow.
As long as Square's around though, I seriously doubt they'll stop. It'd be like if Nintendo stopped making Mario games.

My guess is as long as there are still Final Fantasy fans, Square Enix would keep coming up with more FF games.
I have not heard any rumors that this will be the last Final Fantasy.
However, I have heard the rumor that they're actually further along on Final Fantasy XIII than they are on XII.

FINAL FANTASY has to die sometime.
Time shows that popular things eventually lose their popularity. Just because there are more titles beig licensed doesn't mean they'll continue to make these games if they don't think they'll be profitable
...mind you, final fantasy IS profitable, and I highly doubt it's going to die any time soon, but there will be a time.
