    Angry CPU hog

    I'm running Windows 2000 pro, on a P3 866mhz.
It usually runs fine for me but after a while, svchost.exe will start using 99% of the CPU and the whole system just crashes...
Is there anyway to fix it? I thought maybe a windows update but they confused me too much and I gave up.

The same thing happened to me about six months ago. Every fifteen minutes or so, I would have to CTRL + ALT + DEL and manually quit out of the svchost.exe service. I tried running Adaware and Spybot, but nothing seemed to work. Eventually, I just gave up and reformatted Windows.

Hopefully, someone else will be able to advise you on a less drastic solution.

If it's a fresh Win2k install, I suggest service packing it to at least SP4 first, and see if that helps.
