That isn't the only downside, dude.Originally Posted by Joshkabob

1. Terribble armor value and defense which makes those fewer HPs worth even less!
2. No magic at all! Not after class change, certainly not before.
3. Nothing special about him. At least the Thief can run from nearly all enemies because of high agility. The Black Belt is entirely boring except for hard hitting skill.
Now, I think that you're not playing the game right. At level 29, the fighter and black belt should be about even. I have a feeling that you're gyping the fighter out of equipment that he should be carrying or else you're levelling too high for the game. To be honest, I'd have the game beat by that time. It sounds like your characters are at level 14 or 15 and your fighter is still carrying a silver sword. The bb only really supercedes the fighter at the teens in the Earth Cave before the Fighter can drop his Silver Sword, and then much later in the game.
You give your fighter a weapon he deserves at level 29, like a Sun Sword or the Defense, or, better still, the Xcalibur, and he should still be on par with the BB until around level 40 (At which point the damage ratios really shouldn't matter).
Usually, it is extremely important to add, the bb doesn't do THAT much more damage than the fighter either. As you said yourself, it's 364 vs. 284. That's less than 100 damage.
Are you saying that your preference is a predominantly weaker character in all the dimensions of HP, armor value, and black and white magic capacity simply on the basis that it can do around 100 (Give or take) damage more than a fighter?
That's ridiculous. Add in the fact that the bb will need help from a white mage in order to stay alive, and then you've got one character less involved in the battle ON PRINCIPLE. Having 2 fighters would eliminate that necessity, and an offensive white mage, or a WM that isn't devoted to a single character, becomes worth far more than 80 extra damage against an enemy per turn.
My experience is that the fighter does more damage than the black belt. Especially in boss fights. (The BB is generally doing 0 damage)
