The only one I've heard is the over done FFXII = FFT sequel. The only comparison is the use of the "country" Ivalice.

Current RPGs: Final Fantasy XII
It has been suggested quite frequently that FFXII is the 'Final Fantasy' the characters in FFTA had been playing and which provided the framework for their adventure. That's more of a theory than a rumor, though. I can't really say I've heard any "wild sequel rumors" about the original FFT.
It probably wouldn't be, or else maybe Marche wouldn't have been as surprised to learn that Ivalice was a country. If it was indeed the FF game they talked about, then their first day playing would have probably been "Hey, look, it's a country named after our town" or somethign like that.
