Thread: Crystal Chronicles and Mystic Quest a franchise or not?

Default Crystal Chronicles and Mystic Quest a franchise or not?

Hello, first of I'm K0n, newbie in the site's forums but I've been checking this place out for a long time.

I've played both games, specially FF:Mystic Quest and I think there is an immense amount of potential and allot of room for improvement in both game. However, if these two game get nicely polished they could become real powerful franchises. I'm mostly interested in FF:MQ with the map changes, the semi-mission based system, and those sections where you have to fight a couple of monsters to get an item (boring...but could be improved into something real interesting).

Let me know what you guys think...

    First of all Welcome!
Second... Crystal Chronicles sucked big time, the only nice thing about it is the graphics.

The rest of the Final Fantasies have been much better in both their layout and storylines. MQ and CC were really IMHO sad attempts to fill gaps in time where there were not any other FF's in line to be put out.
Noone can clearly see what I truly am nor can they see what I am not. In this I am the greatest of mysteries and noone has yet been able to solve it. If you see me you haven't seen me. If you don't see me then you might have just seen me. And in the end you are all left to wonder if I actually existed at all or if i was simply a trick played upon your feeble minds.

I've heard that mystic quest wasn't even an ff game. It was released as something else in Japan and then final fantasy was tacked onto it in NA.
Organized people are just to lazy to look for things.

You might be thinking of the SaGa games. I'm pretty sure Mystic Quest was marketed as "Final Fantasy USA" in Japan.

Either way I think Mystic Quest is a pretty good game with brilliant music. I can't say the same for Crystal Chronicles, which I believe to be nothing more than appeasement for Nintendo in regards to Square using their portables.

To hell with Battletoads and Double Dragon.
    THIS is the ultimate team.

    thanx for the response!
    well...

ok, here's another situtaion. Let's say that Mystic Quest (without the FF attached to it ) comes out with a great story and an enhanced..........no wait.... a polished game style, then, would that count for a good franchise?

I'm just saying... for some reason almost everybody is going gaga for the whole FF7 thing, I'm not complaining, but doing all of those new games and movies is kind of risky considering the fact that FF7 has becomed the Star Wars of RPG gaming and this might or might no be the "Episodes 1,2,3" of this stage. Mystic Quest (even if it's not related to the whole FF sequence) is still a raw idea with alot of room for posibility.

I say yes because it'd irritate the fanboys. I liked MQ a lot. It's just a fun little RPG. Sure, it's fairly easy, but once you've gotten burnt out on killing various uberbosses, it's a nice change of pace. And it had some great music and graphics.

I would like to see another Mystic Quest game, with the following alterations:

Higher difficulty: There is no denying it was a easy game, but that didn't detract from the fun. However, I think it who be more fun with some more difficulty.

More puzzles: One of my favorite things about Mystic Quest was the fact that you used your weapons outside of battle to solve simple puzzles. More of these puzzles, as well as some harder ones, would be appreciated.

Longer: Just increase the length and storyline.

    I'd buy it.
Boy am I an unfunny ass.

    that's what I'm talking about...

In a perfect world this could become a proposal, if approved by the company, the project could involve a totaly new staff of people that are good at making games and hardcore ff fans. But, the fun part about it would be to adapt the concept of MQ and add a new interpretation to the whole thing....

    I can always dream.........
