I cannot stand when people assume if I'm not in one group, I'm in the opposite group...

"You aren't a Republican? Then you must be a Democrat!"

"You're against hunting for sport? Then you must be a hippee vegiterian!"

"You don't like capitalism? Then you must approve of communism!"

Do people ever do this to you? It's done to me all the time and it bugs the crap out of me.

Yes, false dichotomies are really stupid. Frankly, I find them to be the most depressing aspect of our political landscape.

It's the propensity people have to see things in black and white, so to speak. It's quite irritating at times.

Not to me. People stopped assuming stuff with me a long time ago. They don't even attempt to guess because they know it just back fires on them.

Agreed to both, and very well stated.

Personally, I think both sides prefer the seperation, especially those that have the majority right now, because the longer they can polarize each other, the longer it'll take before any real progress to get made, and usually, when progress is made, bad politicians are amongst the first to see the door.

    Take care all.

The Captain's post reminds me of:

If pro is the opposite of con, then what's the opposite of congress?

If I'm not mistaken, I believe there's an extended quote as well:

"If con is the opposite of pro, then congress is the opposite of progress."

I really think that America should be more focused on common ground, and not trying to demonize each side as always wrong, because the only way the USA will ever help itself or the world, is if it's really a UNITED States.

    Take care all.

We have a certain "them and us" mentality, and the current administration has done much to foster it with the "you're either with us or against us" attitude. So long as people continue to attempt to pigeonhole people in such a fashion, things will not change.

So true. Unfortunatly, that's just the way they (the ones doing the pigeonholing) tend to like it.

That really annoys me. It's just unfortunate people tend to see things only in " black and white " terms - in opposites and can't accept a compromise.
