Thread: Save Point

    Cool topic idea.

I dig Metal Gear's Codec system - there are always interesting extras in store for you when you save. Also, CC/XG's save points were tied in to the storyline of the game itself, which was also pretty wicked.

Oh wait, everyone said this already, didn't they. Phooey.

MGS3- when you save, He'll talk to para-medic then go to sleep(when you cut off the game) so when you cut it back on you regan all your health and stamina!
Oh and when you save after you get captured(save while still in jail cell then cut the game off) you get a cool mini game when load up that save file!

i HATED the mog saves in FFIX, far too time consuming.
The save spheres in FFVII or FFVIII were sufficient.

There's an old PSX game, "Chase the Express", about an agent fighting terrorists on a hijacked train. You can only save by going into the toilet.
I've never played this game, but the concept is... interesting.

Any place that lets me save quickly and easily is good... though the Codec and radio systems in MGS1-3 are nifty because of the conversations. You can learn a whole lot about the characters just by saving your game. Yay! However, the more times you save, the worse your overall performance is considered to be.

Yeah, the game utilizes the PS2's internal clock such that, when you load a save, the time when you load it is compared to the time when you saved it, and Snake's health and stamina will have recovered depending on how long it's been. At the same time, though, all the food he's carrying will go to rot accordingly.

Another facet to the "When you save and quit, Snake goes to sleep" idea is that, if you save during the fight with The End, quit, and then load it, you'll see a scene where The End gets the drop on Snake and sends him to a prison cell a few areas back. However, if you save, quit, and then wait a whole week before loading it again (or just manipulate the PS2 clock to make it seem like you have), then when you load, you'll instead see a scene where Snake sneaks up on The End and finds that he's died of old age. And then Snake's support criticizes him for not being able to give the old man the final battle he wanted. Poor guy.

You can, on the other hand, wind the clock back and make all of Snake's rank compost turn back into wholesome morsels.

Using the clock to beat The End was handy; in fact, it's basically essential to do that in order to get every cutscene in the Demo Theater. Getting every cutscene apparently unlocks something special in the PAL version of the game
You can, of course, simply leave the game for a week or two before returning; the end result is the same... but it's not so good if you want results fast.

There are around four different ways of beating The End by messing around with the games' clock and saving.

The MGS3 codec save is the best of the three games. In 1 and 2, it just got annoying with Rose and Mei Ling harping on about useless rubbish. In MGS3 it gets quite funny (especially the one when Para-Medic asks about 007: From Russia with Love).

I agree. I also liked the typewriters.
I also like the FFIX moogles but as said before they are too slow.
Silent hill 3 save points are cool and creepy.
    MGS1,2,3 were good.
    etc etc

I thought it was lame, in X & X-2, that the SPs healed you when you touched them and yet they still gave tents which could only be used at Save Points.
    Jack: How do you know?

Will: It's more of a feeling really.

Jack: Well, that's not scientific. Feeling isn't knowing. Feeling is believing. If you believe it, you can't know because there's no knowing what you believe. Then again, no one should believe what they know either. Once you know anything that anything becomes unbelievable if only by virtue of the fact you now... know it. You know?

    Will: No.

If Demolition Man were remade today

Huxley: What's wrong? You broke contact.
Spartan: Contact? I didn't even touch you.
Huxley: Don't you want to make love?
Spartan: Is that what you call this? Why don't we just do it the old-fashioned way?
    Huxley: NO!
    Spartan: Whoa! Okay, calm down.
Huxley: Don't tell me to calm down!
Spartan: What's gotten into you? 'Cause it sure as hell wasn't me.
Huxley: Physical relations in the way of intercourse are no longer acceptable John Spartan.
Spartan: What? Why the hell not?
Huxley: It's the law, John. And for your information, the very idea that you suggested it makes me feel personally violated.
Spartan: Wait a minute... violated? Huxley what the hell are you accusing me of here?
Huxley: You need to leave, John.
    Spartan: But Huxley.
    Huxley: Get out!
Moments later Spartan is arrested for "violating" Huxley.

By the way, that's called satire. Get over it.

They didn't, though. There are no Tents in FFX or FFX-2.

I actually like more inconvenient saves. As annoying as they are, they make it more worth while in the end. Like having to trudge back ot an INN in the original FF1 "Don't forget to hold RESET"

Just once I would like to see an FF that's shows the FF characters trying to set up the tent while at a save point. I imagine hilarity.
