but I won't go into all the ways that firefox is the worst thing to happen to me ever because I just don't have that kind of time. I'm not one of those people that actually cares about what internet browser they're using (i figure if it's such a big deal that you actually care about it, you probably need a little time away from the computer in any case), but basically, I was forced to download it after "accidentally" blocked IE from accessing the internet.

Aside from my many, many small problems with it, there is one major problem, which has forced me to make this thread; images are not showing up. There will be a large empty space where the image is supposed to be. This doesn't happen all the time, but it's happening enough to be really, really annoying.

So I have 2 questions: is there any way I can fix this? And if not, is there any other browser I can download that actually doesn't SUCK? No, no, scratch that, because I'm too cool to care. But um...how about this...is there any way I can un-block IE from accessing the Internet? I think I did with Norton, a firewall popup kept asking me if it was okay for IE to access the Internet, and I kept saying yes and it kept popping up again and again so I gave up and said no and then whenever I opened it it was just like I wasn't on the internet.

It sounds like you know what the problem is, norton. If you don't have a mental deficiency, you can figure out norton. So with a prayer, and a lot of luck, you might be able to do this on your own!

You can fully configure the norton firewall to permanently allow IE to access the internet, however, since I don't have norton internet security (only anti-virus corporate) I can't tell you how.

I did check google and found this, which might help:

Start Norton, and click on personal firewall. You should have the option on the right side of the Norton window to configure. Under programs tab, find Microsoft Internet Explorer and change the setting.

Well okay, that wasn't as impossible as I thought! Thank you! But now my problem is that I deleted IE off my desktop and it's magically disappeared from my startup bar as well

Why would you want to delete it permanently? You might need another browser incase something like this happens again.

You can't get rid of IE though, so don't worry. if you go to the control panel, then add and remove programs, you can find Add/Remove Windows Components. IE is probably unchecked, so recheck it.

Failing that, you could start/run C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer and drag the iexplore.exe icon to the desktop to copy a shortcut. Or you use use start/run iexplore to open it, or going back to the add remove programs list, find program access and defaults, and set IE as the default browser.

But I think your firefox problem is likely easy to fix. Right click where an image would be, if it says "Block images from http://addresshere" with a checkmark, just uncheck it. If it doesn't, try tools/options/web features and make sure that 'load images' is checked, but 'for originating site only' isn't.

You could always try using Lynx. I hear it's very lightweight, and has withstood the test of time rather well.

To get the IE icon back on the desktop:

Right-click on the desktop and click "properties" from the menu.
Click on the "desktop" tab.
Click the "customize desktop" button near the bottom of the window.
You can now select which icons to display on the desktop.

There are numerous sites/ways to get rid of Internet Explorer. The reason you may want to do this is because a computer system can be compromised without even running MSIE (Micro$oft Internet Explorer), with its files present. This is fact, apologies for not providing links. Here is one such site:

Usually it requires reinstalling things that you use, like DirectX, perhaps some system drivers, etc. Anything that might end up having missing files, basically. It's available for Windows9x, 2000 and XP.
