I don't really have a favorite track, but all the music that plays during the solitary island sequnce is great (that is, if the whole Cid thing turns out "bad"). Screw it! I am going to post spoilers, but I am not using tags because this game is over ten years old. So, don't read below if you haven't played through this entire game! I'll even make a space for you!
Anyway, I like how it plays Celes' theme when she attempts to commit suicide. I like how they made her fall as she was crying, much like the flowers she threw off during the Opera House performance. Then when Celes wakes up on the beach, it plays "Forever Rachel" as she the hope that Locke, as well as everyone else, is alive. because of the music involved in that scene, I say it is one of the best sequences in FF history.
You want the short list or the long one? >_> I have too many favourites for this game.
Going to list them in the order they are played on the OST:
- Opening Theme
- Locke
- Edgar and Mash
- Kefka

- Tina
- Coin Song
- Forever Rachel
- Overture
- Aria de Mezzo Carattere
- The Wedding
- Grand Finale?
- Setzer
- Devil's Lab

- Catastrophe
- The Fierce Battle
- The Day After

*cackles* I probably listed half the soundtrack.
I liked the theme at the begining where trra was in a magtik machine walking in the snow.
Coin Song, Forever Rachel, Dancing Mad (I prefer The Black Mages version though), Cyan's Theme, Devil's Lab, The Magic House, Epitah, Catastrophe, New Continent and Strago's Theme.
Not my words Carol, the words of Top Gear magazine.
Zozo, Gogo, Kefka, Veldt, Gau, and the entire opera.
Mr Thou! Mr Thou!
"The Decisive Battle" or you can just call it the boss theme battle...that has to be, by far, the best composed battle song ever...it just doesn't get any better (ffvii did really good with theirs though)
"Opening Theme" was great too (forgot to mentiont that)
Everything about the soundtrack is great. I can't choose. It's like picking a favorite child.
I really like most of the soundtrack, but my favorite song in the game is slam shuffle (Zozo). I really hate the songs that have the fake singing, though. (Most of the opera, the intro, the fanatics tower, etc.)
"I'll get you, Eh! Steve, if it's the last thing I do!!!!!"
-The Wheelchair
This may be cheating, but I am in love with the Black Mages' rendition of Dancing Mad.
celes' theme hit me right in the heart every time i heard it. probably the most memorable to me.
I agree with you... this game, like virtually all Square titles, has simply fantastic music. I particularly love how each theme is so well suited to the personality of the character it accompanies. There is a true air of regalness in Edgar's theme, a peace and calming to Relm's, a sense of mischief and liveliness to Zozo's theme.... The music here, like in all the FF games I've experienced, help's to set the mood, to wet the emotional pallette of the player, if you would.Originally Posted by Monol
All that said, amongst my faves certainly has to be Gau's theme. Though he's not a character I particularly value, I feel his theme his a bit of sadness in it, making you feel for what he's gone through on the Veldt all alone. But there's a calmness to it as well, letting you know he's not this crazy little punk who'll rob and plunder, but has rather maintained his sense of human decency.
I also love Cyan's theme. There is a sense of true power and nobility captured in there (not nobility in terms of rank, but rather in strength of character). Again, just fantastic matching of music with characters and personalities
My favorite character theme of all in this game has got to be Celes'. There's a sense of pain and despair in there, but the bridge takes a turn to a lighter side, evoking a sense of hope for something better. That one STILL gives me goose bumps![]()
Another piece I loved was the music playing as we see Locke's sad past with Rachel (her falling into the pit after saving him). And of course, the main theme/terra's theme is amazing in this game as well. I particularly love the way it's played during the opening sequence, as Terra, Vicks (I think?) and Wedge are approaching Narshe in their Magitek armor.
Unfortunately I'm having trouble getting my emulator to let me pass the burning house of Thamasa part at the end of the WOB, so if there're any songs in particular that really stick out from the second half of the game, I have yet to be reminded of them

I like Terras theme alot, and Celes' theme. However, the organ fugue portion of Dancing mad is truly spectacular. The last time I heard that, I gained ALOT of respect for Nobuo Uematsu.
my favourites are the opening theme and opera song
