I heard about that on the news earlier today. All we can do is pray about it and hope that the people over there come out safely. Maybe some good will come of it.

That's sad, after what they just got done going through. I feel really sorry for them. I can only hope that their country stops expreiencing so much disaster.

This is sad, because it's nature doing it, and thus no one we can blame.

My Uncle is a boarder patroler and he signed up to help with tsunami relief in that general area a while back. It worried me to death cuz there was talk of another tsunami.

Indonesia has had a lot of grief over the past couple years. In 1998 they had the little revolution. It didn't get much publicity in the western world, and it wasn't too terribly big, but I was living there during the time and it had a lot of people really scared. For a couple years afterwards they had shakey politics, especially with the President that replaced the overthrown one. He was just a puppet and things almost got violent again.

Then to have to have two earthquakes hit is just terrible. I feel secure knowing that nobody I know who still lives there got hurt. I still feel bad about everything that happened to all the people who are suffering, but it's just a little comforting inside to know that my friends down there are safe.

I don't know what to say, other than that these people have it really tough.

I can't imagine having to go through all this, I'm sure most people would feel the same. Tsunamis, earthquakes...what's next, volcanos?

But if they're calling it an 8.7 magnitude, that's incredible, and they would be lucky if they only lost 2,000 people.

Agreed. I almost hate to say it but I wonder, perhaps due to the overwhelming death toll that the tsunami caused, maybe this death poll was lower because there were less people still alive to be effected by it.

    Take care all.

The way I see it, it's not because there was no one left alive, but it's more likely that there are no buildings left standing. At least, from the little that I know about this, it seems likely.

I'd agree. I wouldn't think of calling them lucky in any case like this, but if an earthquake this powerful would strike, this is the best time for it...instead of a couple years down the road, when they've got most everything rebuilt, and it comes back down and kills more people?

    Couldn't imagine...

    Very good point as well.

Though it makes you wonder, will anyone be willing to even attempt to build in this area for the forseeable future?

    Take care all.

I think, after a little bit of time, they will re build. The odds of them getting another high magnitude quake in that area is low. Whatever they do, though, I sure as hell hope they build things just a tad safer this time around. All countries should impose some sort of building regulations like we have in America. It would be a crime to let this happen a second time.
