If you disable the service "Themes" is does. Otherwise it doesn't. If you're going use the classic theme, you might as well disable the service, though.
where can i find that?
Right click Desktop > Properties > Appearance tab > change Windows and Buttons drop down menu setting to Windows Classic Style.
For the service, rightclick My Computer > Manage > Expand Services and Applications on the left > Services on the left > rightclick Themes in the list on the right > Properties > change Startup type to Disabled > click Stop and wait for it to stop, then OK.
is there a difference in speed when using the disabled theme and the classic skin??
Probably only noticable if you have a really crappy computer, like 300 MHz P2 with 256 MB RAM
Now clout, try to be nice.
Skins have a negligible effect on processor performance.
The quickest way to disable themes:
Run "services.msc"
Find the "Themes" service. Stop it and set the startup type to "disabled"
Simple as that.
