    Default classic skin winXP?

    does the skin take less memory than the usual xp blue skin? is it much faster?

    If you disable the service "Themes" is does. Otherwise it doesn't. If you're going use the classic theme, you might as well disable the service, though.

    Right click Desktop > Properties > Appearance tab > change Windows and Buttons drop down menu setting to Windows Classic Style.

    For the service, rightclick My Computer > Manage > Expand Services and Applications on the left > Services on the left > rightclick Themes in the list on the right > Properties > change Startup type to Disabled > click Stop and wait for it to stop, then OK.

    is there a difference in speed when using the disabled theme and the classic skin??

    Probably only noticable if you have a really crappy computer, like 300 MHz P2 with 256 MB RAM

    Skins have a negligible effect on processor performance.

    The quickest way to disable themes:

    Run "services.msc"
    Find the "Themes" service. Stop it and set the startup type to "disabled"

    Simple as that.
