Indonesia has had a lot of grief over the past couple years. In 1998 they had the little revolution. It didn't get much publicity in the western world, and it wasn't too terribly big, but I was living there during the time and it had a lot of people really scared. For a couple years afterwards they had shakey politics, especially with the President that replaced the overthrown one. He was just a puppet and things almost got violent again.

Then to have to have two earthquakes hit is just terrible. I feel secure knowing that nobody I know who still lives there got hurt. I still feel bad about everything that happened to all the people who are suffering, but it's just a little comforting inside to know that my friends down there are safe.
