It's simple really... how many characters switch SO much of being good/bad/good/bad/good... it's almost too much to bear...
That, and all the exposition of his character that is underlying and interpretive is SWEET

Kain and Rydia were my two favorite characters from FFIV. I think Kain was cool because he had a lot of depth to his character. It was annoying when he (SPOILER)stole the crystal in the sealed cave, but other than that, he was great.
Kain was cool, because of his attack style, and definitely because of the "attack first, ask questions later" attitude.
But I don't like him because he's easily manipulated, and yellow. Plus, you didn't know much about him--which was good and bad. Somewhat of a mystery, but somewhat confusing as well. Maybe if he was just a temporary character, one that left like 3/4 through the game, then he'd be alright. But then they'd have to figure out somebody to replace him, and explain his past, etc.
I would name him my second favorite character from FFIV, behind Edge. Mostly because of his role throughout the game, as well as the fact that he doesn't get a happy ending.

Kain is by far my favorite FFIV character, and is simply cool.
why? Because he looks cooler than all the other characters, and has the most interesting type of attack style. He is simply a badass.
I think he is overrated. I think people like him for the sake of liking him. Not saying any of you are doing that now, but no one has ever gave me a concrete reason of liking him.
kain was awesome he kept on switching between good and bad but thats what made him cool. also he as the only one who could damage the wind fiend when she was invincible
